ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State mashed 15 hits on Tuesday night and cruised to an 11-4 win over the University of the Ozarks at Clyde Berry Field.
The Reddies (9-12) got a great start from
Dalton O'Donnell (1-0), who got the win after throwing six innings and allowing just three runs on three hits.
Brayden Bebee got his first save of the season by pitching three innings of relief and giving up just two hits.
Nine different players recorded a hit in the game for Henderson, including
Bryson Haskins, who went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and four RBIs to lead the way. Haskins hit the first home run of his career in the eighth inning to secure two of those four RBIs.
Henderson got off to a quick start and led 3-0 after scoring two runs in the first and one in third. O'Donnell, who was perfect through the first four frames, got into some trouble in the fifth, when the Eagles scored three runs on two hits to tie the game at 3-3.
It did not take long for the Reddies to respond, however, as HSU used hits from
Josh Aguilar, Haskins,
Daniel Colasanto, and
Ryan Wieligman, as well as two errors from the Eagles, to plate three runs of their own in the bottom half and go back in front, 6-3.
The lead began to balloon in the sixth, as doubles from
Brandon Pollock and
Joseph Shepherd added a run, and a wild pitch allowed Shepherd to come around himself, increasing the lead to 8-3. Freshman
Greyson Stevens got in on the final run in the sixth, when the Eagles' center fielder misplayed his single up the middle, allowing Haskins to score and push the advantage out to 9-3.
The Eagles got one back in the seventh, but Haskins' two-run home run deep over the left field wall in the eighth was the icing on the cake for Henderson, as the Reddies closed it out to win their fourth-straight game.
Henderson returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Southern Arkansas in a non-conference matchup at 6 p.m. in Magnolia, Arkansas.
