ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State's offense came alive for 19 hits in just seven innings on Friday evening, as the Reddies poured it on in a 14-2 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State.
It was all HSU from the get-go in the series opener. Henderson (13-13, 7-9) scored three runs in the first inning to go in front 3-0, then used a triple, two doubles, and a single in the third to open up a 6-0 advantage.
SWOSU (12-13, 8-8) got two back on a pair of doubles in the fourth, but the Reddies responded with five singles in the bottom half, which plated another three runs, to extend their advantage out to 9-2.
After a scoreless fifth and sixth, the offense reawakened in the seventh for Henderson. A three-run game-ending home run from
Josh Aguilar highlighted the Reddies' biggest inning of the game, as they put up five runs to bring the run-rule into effect and end the contest early.
Five different players finished with three or more hits in the win. Aguilar had the loudest three hits, which helped him drive in a team-high five RBIs, while
Caleb Carr had three hits and three RBIs.
Daniel Colasanto and
Danny Mitchell Jr. also had three base knocks, which left both just one shy of
Brandon Pollock's outstanding 4-for-4 night from the lead-off spot.
Starter
Austin Cross (2-1) pitched all seven innings for the Reddies and got his second win of the season by allowing just two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.
The top five hitters in Henderson's lineup were an extraordinary 14-for-19 combined in the game with 10 RBIs. HSU had five extra base hits and struck out just once in the win. The victory is the eighth in the last nine contests for the Reddies, who have surged in recent weeks after a tough start to the year.
HSU will face the Bulldogs again tomorrow at 12 p.m. in a doubleheader at Clyde Berry Field.
