Reddies Head to Texas for DBU/TWU Crossover

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After starting the season 2-2 as the co-hosts of the Reddie-Tiger Invitational, Henderson State will complete its circuit of early season tournaments this weekend at the Dallas Baptist-Texas Woman's Crossover in Denton and Dallas, Texas.

Last weekend, the Reddies (2-2) opened the season with wins against Mississippi College and St. Edward's University, but came up just short against No. 20 Texas A&M–Commerce and UT-Tyler, as both losses were decided in the fifth set. Sabrina Show, who finished the tournament with 63 kills, and MaKenzie Thoman, who notched 83 digs, were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

Game 1: Texas Woman's University | September 13 – 10:00 A.M.
After finishing 10-10 in Lone Star Conference play in both 2017 and 2018, the Texas Woman's University Pioneers are looking to take the next step in 2019. TWU is led by the dynamic senior duo of setter Katy Ranes and middle blocker Courtney Noel. Ranes was named to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention team after leading the LSC with 1329 assists. Noel, a first team All-LSC honoree in both the classroom and on the court, led the Pioneers in kills (327), hitting percentage (28.5%) and block assists (76). The Pioneers also return Second Team All-Conference performer Bailey French, who topped the LSC with 663 digs. TWU is led by third year head coach Jeff Huebner who has posted a 34-31 record at the helm of Pioneer volleyball.

Game 2: Midwestern State University | September 13 – 2:00 P.M.
Midwestern State heads into Friday's contest after splitting four matches at the Gorilla Classic, hosted by Pittsburg State University last weekend. The Mustangs are looking for a bounce back year in 2019 after winning just five total matches last season. To do that, MSU will have to lean on senior middle blocker Sarah Eakin who ranked second in the LSC last season with 1.30 blocks per set, which was also the highest mark in school history. The Mustangs are led by Valerie Armstrong who is in her second season at MSU after serving as an assistant at Binghamton from 2014-2017.

Game 3: Colorado Christian University | September 14 – 9:00 A.M.
The Colorado Christian Cougars have been one of the most consistent teams in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference over the past few years, and are a combined 37-17 in conference play in the last three seasons. The Reddies should expect a large dose of senior outside hitter Cali Bahnsen on Saturday morning. Bahnsen was a First Team All-RMAC performer in 2018 and averaged 3.58 kills per set in conference play. Senior libero Mariela Gonzalez will also play a critical role for the Cougars after being named Honorable Mention All-RMAC last season. CCU brings a 2-2 record to Texas after splitting four matches at the Dixie State Tournament in St. George, Utah last weekend. The Cougars are led by third-year head coach Bobby Blanken.

Game 4: Missouri Southern State University | September 14 – 3:00 P.M.
The Missouri Southern State Lions enter the weekend 4-1, with their only loss this season coming to one of HSU's conference foes, the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs. When the Reddies conclude their Texas trip with MSSU, they will have to be wary of senior middle blocker Alicia Pickett, who is a three-time All-MIAA Honorable Mention performer. The Lions were picked to finish ninth in the MIAA this season, and are led by head coach Kalie Mader who is in her second season in charge of the program.
