Volleyball Hosts Tri-Match with UAM, Kingsville

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Reddies Volleyball begins its Great American Conference slate on Wednesday afternoon against Arkansas-Monticello. HSU will also play Texas A&M-Kingsville later in the evening as a part of a three-team round robin.

Henderson State (4-4) looks to continue its recent success in league play which included a 13-3 finish in the GAC last season. The Reddies are aiming for their fifth-straight win over UAM, having taken both matches in the past two seasons. HSU dominated the Blossoms in 2017 and 2018, winning 12 of 13 sets played.

The Reddies look to build off of their 3-0 defeat of Missouri Southern State in the finale of the Dallas Baptist-Texas Woman's Crossover this past weekend. Henderson has used a balanced attack this season and has five players averaging over 1.7 kills per set.

Game 1: Arkansas-Monticello – 2:00 P.M.
Arkansas-Monticello (2-6) is looking to bounce back after falling in its last three matches at the Southeastern Oklahoma Tournament last weekend. Furthermore, the Blossoms are looking for a program turnaround with head coach Jocelyn Garcia taking over after serving as the interim head coach last season. UAM is just 5-27 against conference competition over the last two seasons, including a 3-13 GAC record in 2018. However, the Blossoms return many important pieces from last year, including MarKayla Dickie, who led UAM with 278 kills and 79 blocks in 2018.

Game 2: Texas A&M Kingsville – 6:30 P.M.
The Javelinas (7-2) have the tall task of replacing one of the greatest players in school history this season. Madison Brabham was named a First Team All-American by the AVCA at the conclusion of last season after an outstanding campaign in which she led the nation with three triple-doubles. Despite the loss, Kingsville is off to a promising start in 2019 and swept the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational, which included wins against GAC opponents Northwestern Oklahoma State and Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Javelinas are led by ninth-year head coach Tanya Allen who has compiled a 157-114 record at the school.
