ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — After outlasting Arkansas-Monticello to start Great American Conference play on Wednesday night, the Reddies will look to build momentum in Mississippi this weekend when they take on Spring Hill College, Mississippi College and Mississippi Valley State.
Henderson State (5-5, 1-0) was led by
Courtney Bolf, who turned in a 22-kill, 22-dig performance as the Reddies defeated UAM 3-1 (25-22, 25-27, 25-15, 25-21).
Game 1: Spring Hill College | Sept. 21 | 2:00 P.M.
Perhaps no team in the country has dominated its conference like Spring Hill College has over the past few seasons. The Badgers have not lost a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match since 2015. Spring Hill dropped just one set on the way to perfect 17-0 record in SIAC play in 2018 which culminated in a conference championship. Although Spring Hill (6-4) has dropped as many games in 2019 as it did all of last season, they have played an extremely difficult schedule. Three of the Badgers four losses have been to nationally ranked opponents, including No. 3 Western Washington. Spring Hill is led by senior libero Cassidi Sterrett who took home SIAC Libero of the Year honors last season and holds Spring Hill's Division II career digs record with 1396 digs. On offense, the Badgers will look to sophomore middle hitter Kassandra Fairly who collected SIAC Player and Freshman of the Year in 2019. Spring Hill head coach Peggy Martin is on the verge of becoming the NCAA wins leader at any division. Martin has compiled a career record of 1347-349-8 in 44 years of coaching.
Game 2: Mississippi College | Sept. 22 | 4:00 P.M.
This will be the second matchup of the season between the Reddies and the Lady Choctaws as HSU defeated Mississippi College 3-1 in the season opener on Sept. 6. Mississippi College (3-6) is looking to rebound after dropping three of four at the Charger Classic in Huntsville, Alabama last weekend. The Lady Choctaws are led by sophomore outside hitter Jamie Boros who holds the team lead with 117 kills. Similarly to the Reddies, Mississippi College employs two setters, as Lexie Laurendine and Ingrid Savola have notched 320 of the Lady Choctaw's 374 assists on the season. Mississippi College is led by second year head coach Shawna Laurendine who is trying to turn around a program that is 9-63 in conference play over the last five seasons.
Game 3: Mississippi Valley State | Sept. 22 | 2:00 P.M.
Mississippi Valley State is one of two Division I opponents on Henderson's 2019 schedule. The Devilettes (2-12) come into the weekend following a 3-0 loss to Southeastern Louisiana. MVSU is led by Tyler Caliste who paces MVSU with 77 kills and 107 assists. Jessica Bell provides defensive help for the Devilettes, leading them with 122 digs. MVSU is led by Douglas Hunter, who has been at the helm of the program since 2014.
