Reddies Return to Play Spoiled by Harding Rally

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State saw a big lead evaporate in the final minutes on Saturday as Harding used a furious late rally to force overtime and defeat the Reddies 98-92 at the Duke Wells Center.

Ashley Farrar had a standout game for HSU in defeat and finished with a career-high 32 points and six made 3-pointers. Both Gracie Raby and Tamia Templeton also had career-highs in points with 17 and 16, respectively, while Lani Snowden chipped in 12 and played all 45 minutes.

Henderson got out to a double digit lead early in the first quarter at home and led 22-8 after 10 minutes. The Lady Bisons responded in the second period and out-scored the Reddies 29-18 to cut HSU's halftime lead to 40-37. The Reddies regained their grip on the game in the third and shot 50% from the floor in the quarter to re-establish a double figure lead, 65-55, with 10 minutes to go.

It was all Henderson for the first five minutes of the fourth period, as eight-straight points from Farrar put HSU up 77-60 with 5:14 left. Harding refused to go away, however, and slowly began to chip into the deficit, eventually cutting it to 81-72 with 1:03 remaining.

Clinging to a nine-point led, everything went wrong for the Reddies in the final minute of regulation. Three turnovers and a missed layup led to a 9-0 Lady Bisons run, capped off with a miraculous floater to tie the game with two second left, which sent the game into overtime.

A stunned Henderson side got out to a slow start in the extra period and Harding seized a 91-86 lead with 2:23 left. A 3-pointer from Farrar and a jumper from Snowden twice cut the deficit to one basket for HSU in the final moments, but the huge momentum swing late proved to be too much to overcome, as the Lady Bisons pulled away and iced the game at the line.

The Reddies shot 40.6% from beyond the arc in the game and hit 13 3-pointers, but were plagued by 23 turnovers — nine of which came in the last 4:35 of regulation. After starting the game 6-for-21 from three, Harding hit seven of its last 10 attempts in the fourth quarter and overtime.

HSU will look to get back on track Monday evening when it travels to face Southern Arkansas in a non-conference contest at 6 p.m. in Magnolia.
