Harding Extends Home Winning Streak Against HSU

SEARCY, Arkansas – Henderson State was tripped up Thursday night as the Lady Bisons took the match in straight sets, 25-18, 32-30, 25-21. The win marked the 20th straight victory on its home court against HSU.

Henderson has yet to have both of its top outside hitters play well against Harding this season as this time Mya Robinson gave the HSU a team-high 13 kills with a .222 attack percentage in the effort. Christiane Uzoh also had nine kills while hitting .300.

The Reddies (17-8, 6-6) have another big test coming up when first-place Arkansas Tech comes to the Duke Wells Center Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. for Student-Athlete night.

SET ONE
Henderson had little success attacking in the opening set, holding a hitting percentage of .000 to Harding's .279. The defense of the Reddies kept them in the frame early on, seeing 5 of their 18 first-set points coming from blocks.

Runs of four and five on separate occasions for the Lady Bisons in the course of the race to 25 proved too much for HSU, however, as Harding took the early 1-0 match lead, 25-18.

SET TWO
The offense came alive for HSU in the second set, led by Robinson's seven kills. Henderson came out sharp, claiming a 14-9 lead at about halfway through the frame. In eerily similar fashion to the second set in the first match these two teams played earlier this season, the Lady Bisons began their comeback.

With the tally reading 20-17 in favor of the Reddies, Harding went on a 5-0 run to see its first lead since 2-1 in the early moments on the second stint, during in which Phil McDaniel exhausted both of his timeouts to stop the bleeding. That lead, however, turned into a 24-22, double set-point back-breaker inflicted by the home team.

Henderson responded in a gutsy way, overcoming those two set points to keep hope alive. With neither team willing to relinquish the set, six additional match points came and went for the Lady Bisons, with the Reddies having a response for each blow Harding threw. At 31-30 Harding, the knockout blow came, as HU took the marathon set, 32-30.

SET THREE
Henderson did its best to put that loss behind it, rushing out to a 3-1 lead and holding the edge until 13-10. Another Lady Bisons run once again killed any hope HSU may have had as the remainder of the set remained tied up until play stood at 20-20.

After one final point from the Reddies, Harding closed out on a 5-0 run to claim its 20th straight home victory over Henderson, 25-21.
