ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State looks for a big win to cap its 2021 regular season on Saturday when it travels to Monticello, Arkansas to take on first-place UAM at 4 p.m.
REDDIES REPORT
- Henderson State is riding a wave of momentum heading into the final regular season game of the year. The Reddies have won four-straight games and six of their last eight overall after defeating Harding 82-62 on Thursday. HSU was down 12 early to the Bisons and then outscored Harding by 32 over the rest of the contest.
- The Reddies are locked into the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Division for the GAC Tournament next week and will host a home tournament game on Monday night at the Duke Wells Center against either Ouachita Baptist, Arkansas Tech or Harding. If Ouachita defeats Arkansas Tech on Saturday, HSU will face Tech for the fifth time. If Tech and Harding win, Henderson hosts OBU. If Tech wins and Harding loses, the Reddies face HU.
- As a team, Henderson ranks first in the GAC in field goal percentage defense (40.7%), first in rebounding margin (+6.6), first in steals per game (8.1), second in rebounds per game (39.1), third in scoring margin (+4.9), third in scoring offense (73.9) and fourth in scoring defense (69.1). The Reddies are last in the league in assist to turnover ratio (0.7) and 3-pointers per game (6.0).Â
- Several Reddies are among the conference's statistical leaders. Raekwon Rogers is 15th in scoring (13.8 per game), fourth in rebounding (8.3) and second in field goal percentage (59.1). Quawn Marshall is fifth in assists per game (3.7) and sixth in steals per game (1.5). Malik Riddle is 18th in scoring (13.3 per game) and 16th in rebounding (5.6).
- HSU is looking for its first five-game winning streak since it won six-straight contests to end 2019 and begin 2020. The Reddies have not won in Monticello against UAM since Jan. 31, 2015 and have lost 11 of the last 12 meetings with the Weevils.
SCOUTING UAM
- Arkansas-Monticello enters the final game of the regular season 12-4 overall and 11-4 in GAC play. The Weevils are sitting in a tie with SAU atop the Eastern Division standings and can clinch at least a share of the Eastern Division regular season title with a win Saturday. UAM has beaten HSU three times this season.
- UAM will be either the 1-seed or 2-seed in the GAC Tournament next week and will not play until Wednesday. Deep tiebreaker scenarios would be needed to determine who gets the No. 1 seed if both UAM and Southern Arkansas win on Saturday.
- The Weevils have been a terrific shooting team all season long. They lead the conference in 3-point field goal percentage (40.2%), free throw percentage (74.8%), scoring margin (+7.5) and are shooting 45.5% from the floor this year. UAM is No. 10 in all of NCAA DII in 3-point field goal percentage. Monticello's leading scorer Miles Daniels is shooting 45.6% from beyond the arc this season.
