Henderson Slugs Past Harding in Saturday Finale

SEARCY, Ark. — Henderson State hammered out 15 hits on Saturday and rode an early lead to a 10-5 win in its series finale against Harding.

The Reddies (7-5, 5-4) were led by freshman Alec Lewis, who went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs courtesy of a double and a home run. Kaden Argenbright also had three hits for HSU while both Joe Myers and Matthew Baker had two.

Brayden Bebee earned his first win of the season after relieving starter Spencer Taack in the fifth. Bebee was terrific and allowed just one hit and no runs in four innings.

Henderson got off to a big start on the road and used five hits, including two doubles from Lewis and Myers, to plate five runs in the first inning. The Reddies chased Harding starter Logan McCall after he had recorded just one out. HSU added to its lead in the second on a two-run home run from Danny Mitchell Jr. which made it 7-0.

After recording just one hit in the first three innings, Harding got going in the fourth. The Bisons used three doubles and a triple in the frame to put a big dent in the Reddie lead and make it 7-5.

Henderson buckled down in the fifth, however, and got a solo homer from Lewis and another run on a wild pitch, to quell the HU rally and extend its advantage to 9-5.

Bebee made sure the Reddies did not have to sweat it out from that moment on. The Arkadelphia native did not allow the Bisons another hit until the eighth and struck out five Harding batters over the next four innings to slam the door on another comeback attempt.

The Reddies were 8-for-20 in the game with runners on base and 6-for-15 with runners in scoring position.

HSU returns to the field on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. when it hosts rival Ouachita Baptist in a non-conference game at Clyde Berry Field.
