Henderson Hosts SAU on Staff Appreciation Night

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Off of back-to-back losses after seeing an 11-2 start to the season, Henderson State looks to get back on track when it hosts Southern Arkansas inside the Duke Wells Center Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

The matchup will be paired with Staff Appreciation Night. Each player will invite two professors and/or staff members to the match in addition to all professors/staff members being recognized in between sets.

Henderson State (11-4, 1-2)
The Reddies gave Harding (Sept. 23) its best conference match of the season, but it was not enough as the Lady Bisons won, 3-1. Henderson very nearly, however, could have found itself up 2-1 rather than down 2-1 heading into the fourth set as HSU led HU 23-20 in the second set before Harding scored six of the final seven points.

Both Violeta Mendoza Quintana and Taylor Scalzi secured double-doubles against the Lady Bisons. Mendoza Quintana saw 17 kills and 13 digs while Scalzi had 19 assists and 16 digs.

Mya Robinson, after seeing one of the best stretches in HSU history with a double-double in four consecutive matches, saw only four kills and nine errors while registering her lowest attack percentage output of her Reddie career with -.135. As a team, Henderson hit .144 through the four frames.

Henderson State leads the league in opponent hitting percentage, holding the opposition to .135. On the offensive side of the ball, HSU still boasts a Top-3 attack unit in the GAC, hitting at a .216 clip. Christiane Uzoh is fifth in the conference with a .314 attack percentage.

The Reddies have had the Muleriders' number as of late, winning 10 in a row against Southern Arkansas. When playing inside the Duke Wells Center, HSU is 34-6 against SAU and is 45-14 all-time.

Southern Arkansas (4-9, 0-3)
Southern Arkansas, like Henderson, is coming off back-to-back conference losses, falling to Arkansas-Monticello and Arkansas Tech, 3-2 and 3-0, respectively. The Muleriders did beat Christian Brothers – a team HSU swept earlier this season – 3-1 and 3-0 in the teams' two meetings earlier this season.

The Muleriders have seen greater success on the road this season compared to at home as they are 2-2 away from W.T. Watson Athletic Center compared to 0-2 on their home floor and 2-5 at neutral sites. The previous two seasons tell a different story, however, as SAU saw just one road victory in that time.

Southern Arkansas' offensive attack is run through Morgan Shuster, who has a GAC-leading 424 assists. The scoring output is spearheaded by the two-headed monster of Victoria White and Landy Rogers, combining for 265 kills through 13 matches. Abby Bermudez leads the team with a .297 attack percentage.

What To Watch For…
-Henderson State is going for its 11th straight win over Southern Arkansas. A win on Tuesday will mark the longest win streak HSU has held over a conference opponent since the Reddies saw 29 straight victories over this same SAU team from 1993-2006.

-Under head coach Phil McDaniel, Henderson has only lost three straight conference matches twice in four years. It has never lost four GAC contests in a row under McDaniel.
