Henderson Looks for Road Trip Split Versus SWOSU

LIVE COVERAGE LINKS | GAME NOTES

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State will look to split its weekend road trip to Oklahoma on Saturday when it faces off with Southwestern Oklahoma State at 3 p.m. in Weatherford, Oklahoma. HSU has not played on the road against SWOSU since January of 2020.

REDDIES REPORT
- The Reddies ran into a cold shooting night on Thursday in Alva, Oklahoma and fell to NWOSU 76-66. HSU shot just 38.5% from the floor and finished 4-for-22 from 3-point range. Ryan Boyce had a season-high 13 points in defeat to lead Henderson.

- Through six conference contests, HSU has been excellent defensively. The Reddies are No. 1 in the GAC in both steals per game (10.1) and turnover margin (+3.5). Henderson is fourth in the league in scoring defense (67.3 points per game) and fifth in both field goal percentage defense (43.6%) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (31.4%).

- Twelve games into its schedule, Henderson has an odd streak intact: the Reddies have not had the same player lead them in scoring in back-to-back games yet this season. Boyce became the sixth different player to lead HSU in scoring in a game this year on Thursday, but no player has led the team in scoring in consecutive outings.

- Henderson has been whistled for more fouls than its opponent in nine of its 12 games, including its last seven contests in a row and every GAC game this year.

- The Reddies have dominated the series with the Bulldogs in recent times and have won 10-straight over Southwestern dating back to 2015. HSU has not lost to SWOSU since Jimmy Elgas took over the program in 2015-16. During Henderson's 10-game win streak over the Bulldogs, only three of those contests have been within single digits and the average margin of victory for HSU is 16.9 points.

SCOUTING SWOSU
- Southwestern Oklahoma State is 3-8 overall and 2-4 so far this year in GAC action. The Bulldogs enter Saturday's contest after dropping an 82-81 heartbreaker on Thursday at home to Ouachita Baptist. SWOSU has lost three-straight games since defeating SNU 77-72 on Dec. 14.

- The Bulldogs are led by high-flying guard Damion Thornton, who is a two-time All-GAC honoree and the 2020 GAC Newcomer of the Year. Thornton averages 20.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game for SWOSU. He scored 29 points in Thursday night's loss to Ouachita Baptist and had 36 in December against East Central.

- SWOSU has struggled to shoot the ball in conference games this season and ranks 12th in the league in field goal percentage (39%). Southwestern is sixth in scoring offense (69.6 points per game) and 10th in scoring defense (75.5 points per game).
