ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State will travel to Russellville, Ark. to take on Arkansas Tech University in the second meeting of the season on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m.
Henderson State (8-16, 2-10)
In the Reddies last match, they faced Ouachita Baptist, who defeated HSU 3-0 in the second installment of the Battle of the Ravine.
Christiane Uzoh continues to lead the Henderson State attack with 240 kills with an attack percentage of .212.
Aleah Stogner and
Kaitlyn Sykes round out the attack with 157 and 105 kills, respectively. Sykes had four total blocks against OBU, which brings her total for the season to 70.
Trinity Sharp and
Dani Dagley are two of the central figures in the HSU defense. Dagley led the team with 14 digs against Ouachita Baptist and now has 299 for the season. Sharp is averaging 3.80 digs a set which is eighth-best in the conference and has a team-high 312 digs.
The first meeting between the two sides was a five-set thriller after the Golden Suns rallied from 2-0 down. The Reddies quickly shut the door on a comeback for Arkansas Tech, defeating ATU 15-11 in the final set to win the match 3-2.
HSU has struggled when facing the Golden Suns in Russellville, Ark., with only six wins and 13 defeats. The last victory for Henderson inside the Tucker Coliseum was in 2019 when the Reddies won 3-1.
Scouting Arkansas Tech
ATU split its two matches last week, falling to Drury 3-0 and defeating the University of Arkansas-Monticello 3-0. Arkansas Tech is eighth in the GAC standings with a 4-8 record and is 6-19 overall.
The Golden Suns attack was led by Maddi Siedenburg over the two matches. The sophomore outside hitter recorded seven kills against Drury and 10 in the Arkansas-Monticello match. Siedenburg and Heather Thomas have tallied the most kills for the team, with 166 and 165, respectively.
Megan Solberg leads the team with 365 digs and averages 4.10 a set, which is seventh-best in the conference. The redshirt senior has also played her way onto the service leaderboard with 32 aces and is averaging .36 a frame.
What to Watch For…
- The Golden Suns currently hold the final spot for the GAC tournament, though several teams are breathing down their neck, looking to overtake them. The Reddies are just two matches behind ATU, and a win over the Golden Suns would put HSU back in contention for that last spot.
