Reddies Run Rampant Over Williams Baptist, 92-67

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State trailed for all of 32 seconds Tuesday evening before pulling away for its first home win of the young season, 92-67. The 25-point triumph is HSU's largest margin of victory since the 2020-21 season when the Reddies defeated Arkansas Tech, 70-44.

The scoring barrage saw five Henderson players score in double digits, led by Franck Kamgain with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Newcomer Ken Lewis claimed a season-high 12 points off the bench. 58 of HSU's 92 points came from inside the paint while 28 of them were virtue of fast break buckets.

Henderson's length and size advantage was on full display as the Reddies out-rebounded the Eagles 46-25, including 16-8 on the offensive glass. Zyon Patterson pulled down a team-high nine rebounds while big men Tomislav Miholjcic and KJ Stewart each gathered seven boards a piece.

The high-scoring Williams Baptist offense got things going with a wing three-pointer for the first points of the game. A Kamgain and-1 lay-up 32 seconds later gave the game its first tie, and then the Reddies were off and running, scoring 13 of the next 15 points.

The Eagles' second triple of the early going brought the score to 16-8 with 12:26 left in the opening half. From there, HSU's suffocating defense held WBU scoreless for nearly eight and a half minutes of game time, capitalizing on their opponent's drought to the tune of 41-8 with 4:16 left until intermission.

Thanks to 30 first-half points in the paint and 14 fast break points, head coach Jimmy Elgas' squad hung half a hundred in the opening 20 minutes, 50-20, for Henderson's largest first-half total of the season.

After HSU grew its lead to 34 on two different occasions, Williams Baptist used a 12-2 run to cut the deficit to 24, 69-45, but the length and athleticism of the Reddies was too much, maintaining a 25-27 point lead over the final nine and half minutes before eventually taking the in-state contest, 92-67.

Henderson (2-2, 0-0) will return from its Thanksgiving break for one final non-conference game when Dallas Baptist comes to the Duke Wells Center Saturday, Nov. 26 at 3 p.m. Following the showdown with the Patriots, conference play will begin Thursday, Dec. 1.
