HSU Tripped up on the Road Against TWU, 75-66

DENTON, Texas – Henderson State fell to Texas Woman's University 77-66. The Reddies got off to a fast start in the opening period and had the team up at halftime, but a strong second half from the Pioneers helped them to a victory.
 
Ashley Farrar paced the team with 23 points, while Abbie Jiles and Jadah Pickens had 11 and nine points, respectively. Jiles led the team with nine rebounds and four assists. Henderson shot 35% from the field and 28% from beyond the arc. The Reddies' bench provided 19 points, and the team had 30 points in the paint.
 
A fast pace start to the game had both sides exchanging baskets. The Reddies would get their first lead of the game after a triple from Martin, 12-11. The Henderson defense held TWU to just one point after scoring 11 in the first five minutes and outscored the Pioneers 15-1 to end the first ten minutes. Henderson led 24-12 heading into the second period.
 
The Pioneers got off to a fast start in the second frame scouring the period's first 12 points. Henderson recorded its first points of the quarter after four minutes of playing time, courtesy of a Jiles triple. Four minutes went by with neither team able to find the basket, but in the final minute of the period, the two sides exchanged layups to end the half. The Reddies carried a 32-29 lead into the second half.
 
TWU tied the game at 32-32 with just under a minute played in the third period. Henderson regained the lead with a layup from Tamia Templeton after end-to-end action. The Pioneers took the lead for the first time since the first period after an eight-point run, 46-40. TWU finished the third period with a 5-0 run, taking a 51-44 lead into the final ten minutes.
 
The two sides went back and forth in a chaotic start to the final ten minutes. A triple from Pickens and Farrar brought the score within three as the Reddies trailed 67-64. The Pioneers scored the next four-point, giving them some breathing room heading into the game's final minute. TWU was able to hold on to its lead despite the end-to-end action, 75-66.
 
Henderson State (3-3, 0-0) hosts GAC foe Southern Arkansas University for the first conference game of the season on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m.
