HSU Exhibits Shooting Clinic in Victory Over Bisons

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State won its sixth consecutive game over Harding inside the Duke Wells Center, 87-66. The Reddies put on a shooting clinic in the contest, making a season-high 60.0 percent (12-20) of their three-pointers in the 21-point blowout.

Tomislav Miholjcic went toe-to-toe with Harding big-man and GAC leading-scorer Taylor Currie and handed him a game-high 20 points on an extremely efficient 10-of-12 (83.3%) shooting. Ryan Boyce logged a season-high 16 points, including hitting three of his four attempts from long range.

The three-ball was falling early for Henderson State Saturday afternoon. Five of HSU's first seven field-goals came from behind the arc after the Reddies had made just five three-pointers for the entire game against Arkansas Tech Monday. That hot shooting spurred on a 21-4 run after Harding opened the game with a pair of free-throws.

The 15-point, 21-6 advantage at the 14:12 mark was extended to 19 just prior to the under-four media timeout thanks to yet another Henderson triple, this time from newcomer Ken Lewis, making it 37-18. Before the halftime buzzer sounded, HSU had built a 20-point lead behind 8-of-14 shooting from deep.

Six different Reddies made a three-pointer in the first half, including two each from Franck Kamgain and Boyce, to highlight the 48-28 advantage at the break. Miholjcic scored 10 of his 20 points in the first 20 minutes of action.

Both offenses came out matching the other shot-for-shot in the second half as the lead was trimmed slightly to 18 six minutes into second-half action. Back-to-back treys from Lewis and Boyce, however, gave Henderson its biggest lead up to that point at 66-42 with 13:44 left in regulation.

Elite shooting stayed with Henderson the rest of the way as a 27-point lead following the under-eight media stoppage left little doubt surrounding the outcome. On a night where HSU, in addition to its great field-goal percentage numbers, missed just two free-throws out of 17 attempts, the 20-plus point margin remained intact with HSU getting the final nod, 87-66.

Henderson St. (5-4, 3-1) will now enjoy a two-week long Christmas break before returning to the court Jan. 2, 2023 in a non-conference home game against Lyon College. The Reddies will resume conference play when they head to Shawnee, Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Baptist Thursday, Jan. 5.
