Farrar Reaches 1000 Career Points in HSU’s Win Over UAM

MONTICELLO, Ark. – Ashley Farrar reaches 1000 career points in Henderson State's overtime win over Arkansas-Monticello, 75-70.

Farrar scored a triple late in the third period to get to 1000 career points. The senior finished the game with 12 points and eight rebounds. Bobbi Bazzle recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and ten points.

HSU had five players with double-digit points, led by Jasmine Bailey and Abbie Jiles, who had 15 each. Bailey's 15 points in a new career-high for the Waxahachie, Texas native. The Reddies shot 40.3 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from beyond the arc.

The Reddies got the game going with an early layup by Jiles, but the Blossoms responded with a 6-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 14-5. Henderson and Arkansas-Monticello both scored six points in the final two minutes of the period, but the Reddies trailed 22-16.

The second period was a cagey ten minutes, as the frame would be the lowest-scoring quarter of the game. The Blossoms got things going with two early layups to expand their lead to 11 points. UAM's lead would eventually grow to 15 points, but the Reddies closed out the half with a 7-0 run to trail 34-26 heading into halftime.

Henderson's offense took some time to get going, but once they were in their groove, points started to come in bunches. With five minutes left in the period, HSU had an 11-0 run that was started by a Bazzle layup to regain the lead, 50-49. The Reddies entered the game's final ten minutes down 54-53 after a late Blossom triple.

Heading into the final ten minutes, each bucket became more crucial, with one point separating the two sides. It was a cagey start to the period, as both sides did not want to make a mistake to give the other team an advantage. Once the scoring got going, the two teams went up and down the court, taking and retaking the lead. At the buzzer, the score was tied 67-67, sending the Reddies to their second overtime game of the season.

UAM scored first in overtime, but after that, it was all Henderson, as the team outscored the Blossoms 7-2 to close out the period, winning the game 75-70.

HSU (5-3, 2-0) stays on the road for its next game, as they travel to Russellville, Ark. to take on Arkansas Tech on Monday, Dec. 12 at 3 p.m.
