Â
Thursday night's matchup was back and forth through the early going with the game seeing two lead changes through the first two and a half minutes. The Bulldogs held a one-point advantage at 11-10 with 6:02 remaining in the opening period. From there, SWOSU went on a 5-0 run and never relinquished the lead again.
Â
After heading into the second quarter down 26-19, a 6-2 run courtesy of
Ashley Farrar and Snowden to open the second stanza brought the game within a single possession at 28-25, but the GAC's leading team took over, building its lead to 43-30 before HSU was able to get it back to single digits before the break, 43-34.
Â
As it was to open the game, both teams traded baskets most of the third quarter as Henderson got the deficit down to seven, but the first-half nine-point hole was too big to climb out of. The Bulldogs regained its double-digit advantage going into the fourth, 65-53, remaining as such through the final 10 minutes as Southwestern left the Duke Wells Center Thursday evening with the 90-78 victory.
Â
Henderson St. (13-10, 8-9) remains at home when Northwestern Oklahoma St. comes to the Duke Wells Center Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1:00 p.m. in a must-win game for the Reddies. Earlier this season, Northwestern defeated HSU in Alva, 84-78.
