ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — No. 16 Henderson State scored 11 runs in the first four innings on Tuesday night and cruised past Lyon College 12-1 in a midweek matchup at Clyde Berry Field.
The Reddies (21-8) finished with 11 hits and drew nine walks in just seven innings of play. Kaden Argenbright and David Vilches each hit a home runs while Dillon Thomas was a scorching 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and four RBIs. Logan Cowart also had a strong game with the bat and added two hits, two RBIs, and two runs.
Austin Cross earned his second win of the year on the mound and pitched four innings, allowing one run on three hits. Lane Neely and Josh Saulsbury both saw their first action of the season in the late innings, and Ethan Roark pitched a perfect first inning in the first start of his career.
Henderson's bats were hot from the start on Tuesday and never slowed down. Argenbright led the game off with a towering home run to right field, which highlighted a three-run first inning for HSU. The Reddies added three more in the second to make it 6-0 when Vilches blasted a three-run bomb of his own out to right centerfield. The home run was his 11th of the year.
HSU plated two more runs in the third frame on an RBI single from Thomas and opened the floodgates even further in the fourth on RBI hits from Thomas and Cowart which stretched the lead to 11-0.Â
The Scots, who were limited to just three hits in the contest, had no answer, as the Reddies' pitching sat Lyon down in order in the sixth and seventh to end the game early.Â
The Reddies now turn their attention to Magnolia, Arkansas this weekend, where they will face off with GAC-leader Southern Arkansas in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.Â
