CLEVELAND, Miss. — Henderson State scored six of its seven runs in the fifth inning on Wednesday night, but saw Delta State score seven unanswered to pull away for a 14-7 midweek win.

Cade Tucker led the Reddies (33-13) at the plate and finished 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Nick Butler drew three walks in four plate appearances. Six different pitchers saw action in the non-conference game for HSU, including starter Ethan Perry, who allowed four runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.

Delta State seemingly took control in the fourth, when the Statesmen scored six runs on four hits, two hit batters, a walk and an error to seize a 7-1 lead. 

Unfazed, the Reddies answered back immediately with six runs of their own in the top of the fifth. Henderson used three hits, two errors, five walks and sent 12 men to the plate in the big inning.

After HSU erased its six-run lead, Delta State got going again offensively. The Statesmen scored a go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth, then tacked on three in the sixth, one in the seventh and their final two scores in the eighth.

The offensive explosion in the fifth proved to be the final one of the night for the Reddies, who were limited to just two hits in the final four innings and fell, 14-7.

The Reddies play their final regular season contests of the year this weekend when they host rival Ouachita Baptist for a three-game series beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
