Henderson Drops Series Finale to OBU on Senior Day

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State committed three errors on Saturday which led to three unearned runs for Ouachita Baptist, who held on to defeat the Reddies 6-2 in the series finale at Clyde Berry Field.

The Reddies finish the regular season 35-14 overall and 23-10 in GAC play. HSU will be the No. 2 seed at the Great American Conference Tournament next weekend in Hot Springs and will play the 3:50 p.m. game against the to-be-determined No. 7 seed.

Austin Cross was saddled with the loss on the mound despite a strong final outing at home. The lefty pitched 5.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits. Cross faced 25 batters and struck out two.

David Vilches went 2-for-4 on the day and was the only Reddie with two or more hits. Cade Tucker hit his third home run of the series in the fourth. Greyson Stevens extended his on-base streak to a school-record 41 games with a double in the fifth inning.

Henderson trailed 2-1 after six complete innings on Saturday, but misfortune hit the Reddies in the top of the seventh. With two outs and an OBU runner on third, Cross rolled a routine ground ball to second base, but the Reddies committed an error on the throw which allowed the Tigers to take a 3-1 lead.

Ouachita capitalized further on the very next at-bat with a two-run home run to make it 5-1. All three runs in the seventh inning were unearned for OBU and came with two outs.

HSU got a run back in the bottom half on a sac fly RBI from Luke Farrar, but that was as close as the Reddies would get. Down 6-2 in the bottom of the ninth, HSU loaded the bases and brought the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended it for Ouachita.

The Reddies left 11 baserunners stranded in defeat and finished just 2-for-17 with runners on base.
