Softball Finishes Out 2022 Season in Shawnee

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – Henderson State dropped the final two games of the 2022 season at the hands of Oklahoma Baptist Saturday afternoon, 2-0 and 4-2. Henderson St. finishes the season 12-42 overall and 9-24 in conference.

Freshmen Justine Burch and Miyah Jackson were the only two Reddies to see a hit in the first game while Burch and Jackson also claimed a hit and a run, respectively, in the second game of the twin bill. Krystal Lindsey saw her best outing of the season in the latter portion of the second contest, going three full innings while only allowing one hit.

Game 2: Oklahoma Baptist 2, Henderson State 0
The first game of the day started out in similar fashion to yesterday as HSU saw its first eight batters of the afternoon strike out. Luckily for head coach David Martinez's group, Henderson's pitching was nearly as formidable, giving up just one run on a sacrifice fly during that time to see the slight 1-0 deficit.

The Reddies were retired in order in each remaining at bat before the sixth inning came around. With OKBU scoring one final run in the bottom of the fifth while HSU stranded two Bison runners, Henderson looked to get in on the action in the sixth.

With Oklahoma Baptist sporting a perfect game up until the sixth frame, a fielding error by the Bison's second baseman put an end to those hopes before HSU saw its first two hits of the contest in back-to-back singles to load the bases. With two outs facing the Reddies already, the bases were left loaded as HSU one again went down in order in the seventh to fall 2-0.

Game 3: Oklahoma Baptist 4, Henderson State 2
Hits evaded the Reddies early on as OKBU rushed out to a 4-0 lead before HSU registered its first base-knock. The top of the fifth is when Henderson saw its first run of the weekend, courtesy of an Ashlyn Taylor single that scored Savannah Hughes, who pinch-ran for Madison Treutlein after she doubled earlier in the team's at-bat.

With Lindsey keeping the Bison at bay, Henderson again added a run in the seventh to bring cut the deficit to two, 4-2, with HSU bringing the leading run to the plate. The two base runners were left stranded, however, as a fly-out to left field put an end to the 2022 regular season for both teams, 4-2.
