Reddies Fall in Series to Second-Place Golden Suns

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Henderson State fell in the final two games of the weekend series to Arkansas Tech in Russellville Saturday afternoon, 11-3 and 4-0. The Reddies will have three weekend series' remaining in the regular season.

Abbie Moore logged her team-leading eighth home run of the season in game one of the day's twin bill, bringing in all of HSU's three runs. Justine Burch logged at least one hit in each outing, holding up her title as the team's hits leader.

After facing the top two teams in the GAC, Henderson St. (11-32, 8-16) continues its brutal stretch with the No. 1 University of Texas at Tyler Patriots coming to town for a mid-week doubleheader Tuesday, April 12 at 4 and 6 p.m.

Game 1: Arkansas Tech 11, Henderson State 3
Tech continued its scoring barrage from yesterday's 16-run spree, claiming the first two runs of the game in the first inning. Unlike yesterday, however, HSU kept the Golden Suns in check over the next two innings, keeping play at 2-0 going into the fourth inning.

After a fourth-inning lead-off single from Burch, followed by a Brooke Johnson walk, gave way for Moore's eighth homer of the season to give the Reddies the momentary lead, 3-2. Tech quickly retook the lead with a four-run bottom of the fifth in the final lead change of the contest, 6-3.

Two HSU batters reached base over the next two half innings, yet each were held in place as ATU put another five runs on the board to seize the game one win, 11-3.

Game 2: Arkansas Tech 4, Henderson State 0
Henderson nearly saw its first first-inning runs of the weekend, sending a base runner to second and third with two outs, but a strikeout left HSU wanting more as Tech took advantage with a two-run home run in the home side of the inning.

Savannah Carrigan held Tech to its quietest outing of the weekend, seeing six strikeouts in six innings, but the offense could not match, seeing just two more hits the rest of the way as the Golden Suns extended their lead to an eventual final of 4-0.
