Reddies Split Doubleheader on Final Day of Invite

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- Henderson State split its doubleheader on day two of the Reddie-Tiger Invitational, finishing the two-day tournament with a 2-2 record.
 
Henderson started the day with a 3-0 sweep of LeMoyne-Owen thanks to a lethal offensive display from the team. In their second match, the Reddies faced Quincy University, who defeated Henderson, 3-0, in the tournament's final match.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Christiane Uzoh had another standout performance over the two matches, recording 15 total digs. Uzoh hit .364 in the day's first match and .389 in the latter contest to finish with a .379 attack percentage on the afternoon.
 
Sophomore middle blocker Larkin Luke led HSU in blocks both matches, registering four rejections in each match. Luke leads the team on the season with 11 blocks, six of which have been solo.
 
Henderson (2-2, 0-0) plays again Wednesday, Aug. 31 against the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff inside the Duke Wells Center. First serve between the two Natural State programs is at 7 p.m.
 
Match 1: Henderson State 3, LeMoyne-Owen 0
Henderson State swept LeMoyne-Owen in the first match of day two, continuing its winning streak against LOU, having never lost to them in eight meetings.
 
The Reddies outscored the Lady Magicians 50 to 23 in the first two sets, being led by Andrea Roland's seven kills in the match, followed by Uzoh with six. The two had help from junior setter Skyler Fernandez, who led the team with 12 assists.
 
Redshirt senior defensive specialist Dani Dagley took the libero role against LeMoyne-Owen, registering 20 digs and two assists. Dagley led the team in digs, while Aleah Stogner finished the match with the second most digs (8).
 
SET ONE
The Lady Magicians scored the first point of the match before the Reddies went on a 6-0 run to jump to a 6-1 lead. Henderson did not allow LOU to close the gap, building a 22-12 advantage thanks to a strong offensive performance.
 
The Reddies closed out the frame 25-14, thanks to HSU's strong offensive showing with an attack percentage of .257, while their defense held LeMoyne-Owen to -.056.
 
SET TWO
Henderson started its most dominant frame with a 4-1 lead, and the Reddie defense did not allow the Lady Magicians to get any rhythm on offense. The best sequence during the set for LOU was a 2-0 run, but Henderson's lead was too much at 13-6. HSU had a 7-0 run late in the set to make it 20-7, and the team closed out the frame with the 25-9 win.
 
The Reddie offense's attack average for the frame was a match-high .565, while the Lady Magicians continued to struggle offensively due to HSU's defense with an attack percentage of -.136.
 
SET THREE
The Reddies held a quick 2-0 lead and never looked back, seizing its second sweep of the young season. Henderson refused to give up their advantage, allowing no lead changes in the set, thanks to another solid offensive performance. LeMoyne-Owen kept the match close, down 6-4, but the Reddies offense expanded the lead to 12-5 after a 6-1 run.
 
Later in the set, Henderson put together another 4-0 run to take put the set out of reach, leading 17-7. The Lady Magicians fought back, scoring seven more points in the frame, though they never were a threat to the Reddies. Henderson wrapped up the match forcing two straight attack errors from LOU to win the set, 25-14.
 
Match 2: Quincy 3, Henderson State 0
In the final match of the Reddie-Tiger Tournament, Henderson faced off against Quincy University, who got the win in the tournament finale, 3-0.
 
CUzoh led the team's attack for the second straight match with her nine kills. The outside hitter had setter Maddison Hatt in support, who assisted 17 attacks. True freshman outside hitter Aleah Stogner continued her strong performances in the tournament against the Hawks with six kills and three digs.
 
Sophomore libero Trinity Sharp recorded a team high 14 digs versus Quincy, followed by Roland, who had 12 digs and five kills. Roland has 31 digs and 23 kills through four matches. 
 
SET ONE
Quincy started the set fast, jumping to a 10-3 lead over Henderson, but HSU chipped away at the Hawks' lead to get within four at 13-9. However, Quincy's attack did not slow up, shooting ahead 21-11 before taking the opening frame, 25-13.
 
SET TWO
HSU and QU went back and forth to start the set when they found themselves deadlocked at 16-16. Each team responded every time the other squad secured a point, making it difficult for either team to get the advantage.
 
A 4-0 run from Quincy broke the stalemate between the two sides. Henderson, unable to respond, could not catch up and a pair of kills for the Hawks ended the frame at 25-19, giving the Hawks the 2-0 lead.
 
SET THREE
Qunicy's offense continued to stay hot, racing out to a 5-0 lead over the Reddies. Henderson fought back to cut the deficit to three, but the Hawks responded with a flurry of attacks to make the score 16-9. Quincy controlled the remainder of the set to win the frame 25-13.
