COVERAGE LINKS

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - After going .500 in the Reddie-Tiger Invitational last weekend, Henderson State moves its sights to intra-state opponent Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. The Lady Lions will be making the hour and a half drive to the Duke Wells Center for the first time since 2013.

Henderson State (2-2, 0–0)
True freshman outside hitter Aleah Stogner started her career off strong as a Reddie, hitting for 21 kills in her first four competitive matches. In the first match of the Reddie-Tiger Invitational, she registered eight kills and four digs against Cameron University. In the win over LeMoyne-Owen, the freshman hit for five kills and accumulated eight digs.

Christiane Uzoh, the sophomore outside hitter, has picked up where she left off last season, recording 30 kills in the Reddie-Tiger Tournament and being named to the All-Tournament Team. The sophomore currently leads the Reddies in kills while her attack average of .239 is the highest on the team.

On the defensive side of the ball, redshirt senior Dani Dagley leads the team in digs with 54, averaging 4.50 per set. Trinity Sharp, the sophomore libero, has the second most digs on the team with 42. Up on the net, Larkin Luke and Kaitlyn Sykes are spearheading the charge with 11 and eight total blocks, respectively.

The Reddies last faced UAPB in 2013. In that match, the Lady Lions beat HSU 3-1, but the overall record goes the Reddies way with a 5-2 advantage. Henderson is 3-0 at home versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff and will hope to continue to stay unbeaten Wednesday.

Scouting Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1-3, 0-0)
UAPB's last match was against Arkansas Tech, who they defeated in a 3-0 sweep after three closely contested sets. The Lady Lions' offense found success attacking the Golden Suns defense, finishing the match with an attack average of .250. Their defense stuffed Tech's attack, holding them to a .076 attack percentage for the match.

The Lady Lions had two players register double-digit kills against the Golden Suns: junior middle blocker Fernanda Spengler with 13 and sophomore outside hitter Zykia Jones with 11. The pair have combined for 67 kills in the first four matches, with Jones leading the team with 36.

Arkansas- Pine Bluff is currently on a one-match winning streak after going 0-3 in the Southeast Missouri State Tourney. The Lady Lions lost to Southeast Missouri State, Jackson State and North Dakota State, each of which came in straight sets.

What to Watch For…
-It has been nine years since Henderson last faced UAPB, and in that match, the Reddies were unable to get a victory. However, HSU does lead the all-time series with five wins and only two losses. In those five wins, they have played each other close, including two matches that went to a fifth set.

-Dating back to last season, HSU has won four consecutive home matches against teams from the state of Arkansas. The Reddies' last loss inside the Duke Wells Center to a team from the Natural State was Thursday, Sept. 23.
