Reddies Fall to Union on Day Two of Union Invite

JACKSON, Tennessee- Henderson State's two-match win streak over Union University ends after the Lady Bulldogs defeat the Reddies 3-0. HSU finishes the Union Invite with a win over Christian Brothers and a loss to Union.

Christiane Uzoh and Brae Denton led the Reddie attack, both registering six kills. The two were also two of three team leaders in blocks, accumulating four and two, respectively. Junior middle blocker Kaitlyn Sykes led the team with seven blocks. 

The Reddies resume conference play, hosting Arkansas Tech in the Duke Wells Center on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The first GAC home match of the season begins at 6:30 p.m. 

SET ONE

The Reddies found themselves down early when Union outscored Henderson 4-1 to open the set. The Lady Bulldogs continued to grow their advantage with a four-point run to take a 12-6 lead. Henderson battled back with a four-point run but still trailed in the set by two, down 15-13. Union responded with a flurry of attacks, going up 20-15, and forced a Reddie timeout. 

Coming out of the timeout, the Lady Bulldogs committed four attacking errors. Now only leading by one, 20-19, Union called a timeout. The Lady Bulldogs held on to win set one 25-22, after a kill and service ace, ending a Reddie comeback.

SET TWO

The Lady Bulldogs took an early 5-0 lead after a handful of errors by Henderson and continued to add to their advantage, leading 10-3. A 5-1 run by the Reddies cut into the Lady Bulldogs' lead, but Union responded with a four-point run to re-establish a seven-point advantage, up 15-8. The Lady Bulldogs kept their lead, winning set two 25-13. 

SET THREE

Henderson scored the first point of the set, but a seven-point run by Union gave them a big lead early, up 7-1. A four-point run by HSU kept the Reddies in the set, down 19-15. Henderson fought to keep the frame close, but a late surge by Union put the match out of reach, securing a 25-18 set win.
