Henderson Sweeps Lane College

JACKSON, Tennessee- Henderson State bounced back after two consecutive defeats, sweeping Lane College in straight sets, 25-13 , 26-24 , 25-13. The Reddies extended their unbeaten run to three matches, and have yet to give up a set victory to the Dragons. 

The Reddies finished the match with an attack average of .196, registering 33 kills and 11 aces. Carson Edwards led the team with three service aces, two of them giving Henderson set point. Andrea Roland and Christiane Uzoh led the team in kills with eight and four, respectively. Uzoh continues to be a stand out attacker for the Reddies. 

On the net, Brae Denton led the team with four blocks, holding the Dragons to an attack average of .075. The Reddies finished the match with five blocks and 46 digs, stuffing the Dragon's attack. 

SET ONE 

The Dragons opened the scoring and had an early 3-1 lead, but the Reddies rallied with a ten-point run, taking a 9-3 lead over Lane. The Dragons were their own enemy in the ten-point run, committing four errors, leading to Reddie points. 

 Henderson dominated the set going on an 8-3 run to extend their lead to 17-6. A pair of kills from Carson Edwards secured a 25-13 set victory. The Reddies finished the frame with a .242 attack average and held Lane College to a .029 attack percentage. 

SET TWO 

A chaotic back-and-forth start to set two had five lead changes and nine ties. The Dragons brought the match level at 14-14 after a four-point run and quickly took the advantage at 16-14. 

After more back-and-forth scoring, the Reddies found themselves down 22-20. An error by the Dragons and a service ace from Roland tied the match at 22 apiece. 

With both teams deadlocked at 22-22, a pair of exchanges brought the match to 24-24. In a close set, Henderson secured a victory after a kill from Larkin Luke and a service ace from Trinity Sharp, winning 26-24. 

SET THREE 

The Reddies struck first, scoring the first three points after the Dragons committed two errors. Lane College kept the set close, tying the frame at 4-4 and 6-6, but HSU kept on the front foot, not allowing the Dragons to gain the lead. A 3-0 and 7-0 run by Henderson put them in pole position to win the set, leading 19-9. 

Like the first set, Edwards closed out frame three with a kill and service ace as the Reddies cruised to a 25-13 win. Henderson finished the set with their best attack average of the match, registering a .385 average.

Henderson will now set their focus on the Union Invitational, taking on Christian Brothers University and Union University, starting Friday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. On day two, the Reddies will face tournament hosts Union Saturday at 2 p.m.
