HSU (16-9, 7-5) fell last time out to league leaders Harding 3-0 at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House. The loss saw the
Reddies drop to 7-5 in conference play, which moves them into a tie for fourth with Southern Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma State in the league standings.
Violeta Mendoza Quintana led the attack over three sets at Harding with eight kills and would finish with 11.0 points after adding four blocks to her totals. On the year, the Chihuahua, Mexico native, is second on the team in kills (218), second in digs (320) and fourth in blocks (33.0).
Henderson State's attack ranks eighth in the GAC, averaging 12.13 kills per set, and has tallied 1043 kills across 86 frames. Leading the way for HSU is
Christiane Uzoh, who has 242 kills on a .239 attack average and averaging 2.92 kills a set. The Beaumont, Texas native has racked 14 double-figure kill outings this season in 25 matches played.
Larkin Luke and
Brae Denton continue to lead the fourth-best defense at the net, helping generate 2.19 blocks per set. Against Harding, Denton logged four blocks and a pair of digs, while Luke had one block and four kills. Luke leads the team with 80.0 total blocks, including 30 solo ones, followed by Denton who has 69.0 this season.
In the first meeting, Henderson State defeated Arkansas 3-1 at the Tucker Coliseum, led by Mendoza Quintana and
Uzoh, who each notched 13 kills. The
Reddies' four-set victory in Russellville was the first win over ATU on the road since 2019. HSU trails the Golden Suns 26-35 in all-time meetings heading into Tuesday's match.
SCOUTING ARKANSAS TECH
The Golden Suns got their second conference win of the season in their most recent match, defeating Southern Arkansas 3-2. ATU is 11
th in the conference rankings with an overall record of 3-21 and a league record of 2-10. The Golden Suns only other GAC win came at the start of the season when they bested Arkansas-Monticello 3-0.
A trio of attackers led Arkansas Tech to a win over SAU, as Savannah Meyer paced the side with 20 kills, while
Kaitlyn Neal and Henley Hooks tallied 14 and 12, respectively. Neal is the team's top attacker this season, posting 193 kills over 81 sets and averaging 2.38 kills per set. As a unit, the Golden Suns are averaging 10.89 kills a frame on a .139 attack average.
