ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State looks to extend its win streak when they host Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State in back-to-back conference matches. The Reddies will face SWOSU on Thursday Oct. 5 at 6 p.m., followed by NWOSU on Friday at 5 p.m. from inside the Duke Wells Center.
REDDIES REPORT
HSU (12-5, 4-1) is on a three-match win streak in conference play after getting a road victory over Arkansas-Monticello in straight sets. The Reddies have now swept their last two GAC opponents to add to their nine sweeps this season.
True freshman,
Mia Sanchez led the attack for Henderson against the Blossoms with seven kills on a .429 attack average. This season, the Waxahachie, Texas native has been the third most productive attacker on the team, posting 90 kills in 57 sets and is averaging 1.58 kills a set. As a unit, HSU is averaging 12.1 kills per set and hitting .194 a clip.
Madison Hatt continues to be the conductor in attack with 312 assists and ranks ninth in the conference, with 5.47 assists per set. The Frisco, Texas native also ranks inside the top ten in service aces, having recorded 21 this season. In the UAM match, Hatt logged 13 assists, three service aces and four kills.
Henderson State ranks seventh across Division II in opponent hitting percentage, as the Reddies have held teams to a .111 attack average. Against UAM, the HSU defense stuffed the Blossoms' attack, limiting Arkansas-Monticello to a -.075 attack average. In addition, Henderson sits inside the top 15 in team digs (12th) with 1,047.
HSU trails Southwestern Oklahoma State in the all-time series 4-12, though the two sides have split the last four meetings. The last time the Reddies and Bulldogs faced each other in the Duke Wells Center was 2021, when Henderson defeated SWOSU 3-1, led by
Violeta Mendoza Quintana and
Christiane Uzoh with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.
Henderson State looks to even the series against Northwestern Oklahoma State in Friday's match, as the Lady Rangers are ahead 6-5 in all-time meetings. Last season, Henderson went to Alva, Okla., and took down the Lady Rangers in five sets after trailing 2-0 in the match.
SCOUTING SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
The Bulldogs have split their last four matches and sit 3-2 in the conference and 8-5 overall. Southwestern Oklahoma State recently fell at home on Tuesday night in five sets to Oklahoma Baptist after leading 2-0 in the match.
SWOSU is led by two-time GAC Offensive Player of the Week, Lacy Mott, who leads the team with 206 kills and ranks third in the league in kills per set (3.75). Mott has 45 kills in her last three matches, including 11 against Oklahoma Baptist. The Bulldogs are third in the GAC in both hitting percentage (.219) and kills per set (12.60).
Southwestern Oklahoma State's Zoey Sparks is the top defender at the net in the league through 13 matches, with 65 total blocks, and is averaging 1.18 per set. Against OKBU, Sparks tied for a team-high six blocks and added eight kills to her totals.
SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE
The Lady Rangers improved to 7-9 overall in a non-conference sweep over Langston in the midweek. In NWOSU's last league match, they were defeated on the road at East Central 3-0 and fell to 3-2 in GAC play.
Cameron Lobb pulls the strings in attack for Northwestern Oklahoma State with a team-high 478 assists and is fourth in GAC, averaging 7.97 assists a set. Lobb has 104 assists in her last three matches, including 55 in a 3-1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State. In addition, the senior setter ranks second in the league in service aces with 26 over 60 sets.
