Henderson State's win over Arkansas-Monticello in straight sets saw the
Reddies clinch a spot in the GAC Tournament after improving to 18-9 overall and 9-5 in conference play. HSU battled back and forth in the first set, winning 25-20, and would turn up the pace in the final two sets, outscoring the Blossoms 50-23.
The
Reddies hit .329 a clip in the sweep against UAM and have seen their attack average improve to .195, which ranks sixth best in the conference.
Christiane Uzoh and
Jagoda Szybinska paced the offensive effort, hitting .500 and .462, respectively, and each recording six kills.
Uzoh has logged the eighth most kills in the league, having tallied 260 across 97 sets, and is averaging 2.99 per set.
Backing a strong offensive performance, the
Reddies' defensive efforts held Arkansas-Monticello to a .032 attack average.
Trinity Sharp has been a large part of the defense's success this season, tallying 425 digs this season, including 13 against UAM. The Springdale, Ark. native is third in the GAC in digs per set, averaging 4.61.
As a unit, Henderson State has been the best team in digs, as the
Reddies are ninth in the nation with 1751 through 98 sets and first in the GAC with 17.9 digs per set. Joining Sharp's efforts in the back row, Mendoza Quintana is second on the team in digs with 343, while
Madison Hatt has provided 196.
Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist meet for the 59
th time in Monday's contest, with the
Reddies leading to the all-time series 35-24. HSU got the better of OUA in the first meeting this season, defeating the Tigers 3-2 in a back-and-forth match.
Uzoh played a crucial role in the team's win, recording a career-high 23 kills on a .391 attack average and four blocks.
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
Ouachita Baptist (16-13, 8-6) has hit a hot streak, winning its last five matches and earning a spot in the GAC Tournament with its 3-1 win over Southern Arkansas most recently.
OUA's five-match win streak has seen them drop just two sets, as they have swept Southern Nazarene, Harding and UAM.
The Tigers boast one of the best attacks in the conference as the team ranks second in kills with 1348, averaging 2.60 per set, while hitting a
GAC-best .232 a clip. Leading the way for OUA are Emily Adams and Kayla
Steinmeyer, who pace the team with 251 and 248 kills, respectively. Against Southern Arkansas, the pair combined for 21 of the team's 57 kills in the 3-1 win.
A large part of the Tigers' offensive success runs the setter Courtney Hanson, who ranks eighth in the nation in assists with 1024. In addition to leading the conference in assists per set with 9.57, Hanson has served 37 aces – the fifth most in the GAC. Most recently, the sophomore setter logged 37 assists, 12 digs and six kills in the team's win over SAU.
