Women’s Basketball Battles UAM in GAC Home Opener

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State looks to bounce back when they host Arkansas-Monticello in the first conference home game of the season on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. inside the Duke Wells Center. 
 
REDDIES REPORT
Henderson State (4-3, 0-1) struggled to get the offense going late in the game against Southern Arkansas, as the Reddies fell 61-55 in its first GAC action of the season. The HSU offense was limited by SAU's press, which forced 28 turnovers by the red and gray and held the Reddies' offense to just 22 baskets for the evening.
 
Ashley Farrar continues to lead the team in scoring with 17.0 points per game, shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 36.6 percent from beyond the arc, and has double-digit points in all seven games this season. The Green Forest, Ark. native finished with ten points against SAU and was 4-of-12 from the field with 11 rebounds. Farrar is three points away now from becoming just the fourth player in program history to reach 1,500 career points and is 150 points away from tying the all-time scorers record (1647). 
 
Freshman Natalie Cardenas is second on the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game after a ten-point outing against the Muleriders. The Mesquite, Texas native also leads the team in assists with 20 on the year and ranks seventh across the GAC with 2.9 assists per game. With the addition of Tori Gittens (11.6 ppg) and Olivia Allen (10.7 ppg), the Reddies are averaging 74.4 points per contest through seven games.
 
Henderson State looks to extend its win streak over Arkansas-Monticello to six wins in Saturday's contest. HSU trails UAM in the head-to-head matchup 42-57 heading into the 100th meeting between the two sides. The Reddies have fared well at home against the Cotton Blossoms, with seven wins in the last 11 games at the Duke Wells Center.
 
SCOUTING ARKANSAS MONTICELLO
Arkansas Monticello is 4-3 through its first seven games and recently fell 58-48 to Arkansas Tech in its conference opener. UAM finished just 13-53 from the field and 4-24 from deep and were outrebounded 50 to 28 in the loss to ATU.
 
The Cotton Blossoms have opened the season struggling to shoot the ball from deep, as they lead the GAC in three-point attempts (184) but have only made 34 of their shots for an 18.4 percent clip from deep. Sophomore guard Alindsey Long leads the team's three-point efforts with 11 triples made on the season, shooting 24.4 percent from the three-point line.
 
Bailey Harris paces the scoring for the Blossoms with 13.9 points per game on 42.9 percent shooting from the field. Along with being the team's top scorer, Harris leads the team in rebounding with 20 offensive and 31 defensive rebounds and is averaging 7.3 a contest. The junior from Sachse, Texas put up a team-high 18 points in the loss to ATU for her seventh straight double-digit point game.
