Farrar Reaches 1500 Career Points in HSU’s Rout over UAM

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – At 8:51 in the third period, Ashley Farrar sank a three-pointer to reach 1502 career points at Henderson State, and helped the Reddies to a 97-69 win over Arkansas-Monticello. Farrar becomes just the fourth player in school history to reach 1500 career points.
 
All 13 players for the Reddies recorded a basket, as Tori Gittens led the team with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field and was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Farrar and Brynlee Huggins each had 15 points, while Olivia Allen and Natalie Cardenas had 12 and 10, respectively. HSU finished the game shooting 49.4 percent from the field and was 9-of-25 from beyond the arc. Bobbi Bazzle led the team at the glass, recording a team-high 12 rebounds, while the team ended with 46.
 
Gittens knocked down a three-pointer to open the scoring for HSU, and three made free throws by Cardenas had the Reddies tied 6-6 with UAM. A pair of layups by Bazzle kept the score tied 12 all until Cardenas sank her first triple, and Gittens knocked down a jumper to give Henderson a 17-14 edge. The Blossoms replied with a triple to tie the period, but the Reddies would lead 26-22 at the end of the first ten minutes after Eryka Patton made a layup at the buzzer.
 
HSU started the second quarter on a 10-0 run after Huggins and Gittens each knocked down a three-pointer to extend the Reddies' advantage to 36-22 with 7:04 left in the period. The Blossom responded with a 6-0 burst to cut HSU's lead down to five. Huggins made her second three-pointer of the stanza with three minutes and five seconds left in the period before the Reddies closed out the quarter on a 9-0 run capped off by another triple from Gittens to lead 52-36 at halftime.
 
Henderson began the third period on a 5-2 run, which featured a three-pointer from Farrar to grow the Reddies' advantage to 57-38. The two sides traded a pair of layups before HSU went on a 5-0 run to stretch its lead out to 20 points, 66-46. Farrar made her second triple of the period, and Jadha Pickens would score a layup as time expired, as Henderson led 71-51 at the end of three quarters.
 
Back-to-back layups by Farrar and Huggins opened the final quarter, and Farrar would extend the scoring with a jumper and triple to give the Reddies an 81-53 edge. Allen provided Henderson its next four points with a second-chance layup, and two made free throws before Kate Miller saw her first basket of the game on a layup. Henderson remained in control for the final four minutes to grab its first conference win of the season, 97-69.
 
HSU (5-3, 1-1) remains at the Duke Wells Center for its next game, when they host Arkansas Tech on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m.
