DENTON, Texas - Henderson State falls on the road in a midweek contest against Texas Women's in a doubleheader.
Presley Applegate started in the circle in the first game and went 6.0 innings with four strikeouts and three walks while giving up one run on nine hits. HSU had logged four hits over the 7.0 innings and stranded three runners on base.
In the second game,
Tabitha Jackson got the start but only lasted 2.0 innings after letting in one run on two hits.
Katelyn McMahan and
Sophie Weaver came in for relief, and each pitched 2.0 innings.
GAME ONE: TWU 1, HSU 0
Applegate held the Pioneers scoreless until the fourth inning when Texas Women's scored the only run of the game with a single down the right field line after advancing a runner on first to third due to back-to-back wild pitches.
Henderson came the closest to scoring in the top of the fifth after getting runners on second and third with two outs.
Josie Copeland was picked off for the final out trying to steal home.
GAME TWO: TWU 4, HSU 0
The Reddies struggled at the plate early to start the second game, while Texas Women's knocked a run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead.
After being held hitless through three innings, HSU started the fourth with a lead-off hit from
Kaitlyn O'Quinn.
Abbie Moore recorded another hit to place runners on first and second, but a double play would strand O'Quinn on the base path. The Pioneers added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 4-0.
