Reddies Tripped Up by Rogers State Saturday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — Henderson State racked up 10 hits on Saturday, but could not overcome an early deficit and fell 6-4 to Rogers State at Clyde Berry Field.

Rogers State (1-0) scored all six of its runs in the game's first three innings and was able to chase Reddie starter Andrew Howard after just 2.2 frames. After putting up three runs in the first, HSU scored just once more in the contest in the third inning.

Trailing 6-4 for most of the afternoon, the Reddies had opportunities to cut into the deficit or take the lead, but were unable to bring another run home. Dillon Thomas was thrown out on a play at the plate in the third and Kaden Argenbright had a well-hit ball caught by a diving Hillcat outfielder to strand two runners and end the sixth inning.

Henderson's biggest scoring chance came in the eighth when it loaded the bases with two outs, but a ground out to the shortstop ended the threat with no harm done to the RSU lead. HSU, who stranded 12 runners in the game, went down in order in the ninth.

Rogers State's two-out hitting burned the Reddies in the loss, as the Hillcats finished the day 6-for-13 with five RBIs batting with two outs.

Greyson Stevens and Luke Rice each had three hits to lead the Reddies offensively on Saturday. Stevens is now just three hits away from breaking HSU's career hits record and currently has 192 to his name. Despite the loss, Henderson relievers Nick Sestito, Ethan Roark and Trevor Davis were excellent, allowing no runs on just four hits in 6.1 combined innings.

The Reddies return to action tomorrow when they host Washburn at 12 p.m. at Clyde Berry Field in the final game of the 2023 Dugan Invitational.
