Henderson Faces Ouachita Baptist in Opening Round

COVERAGE LINKS I GAME NOTES

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Battle of the Ravine makes its way to FireLake Arena as Henderson State gets set to take on Ouachita Baptist in the first round of the GAC Tournament on Friday, Mar. 3 at 2:15 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson kept the game close against Harding in the final regular season game, but a late run in the fourth period by the Lady Bisons would win them the game. Harding transfer Abbie Jiles logged 13 points and eight rebounds, while Ashley Farrar recorded a team-high 22 points.

Farrar ends the regular season as the second-highest scorer in the GAC, averaging 19.7 points per game. In the last five contests, the Green Forest, Ark. native has scored 20 in each outing, including a 30-point game against Ouachita Baptist. Jiles and Gracie Raby round out the scoring for the Reddies with 11.8 and 11.0 points a contest, respectively.

Sonni Martin finished the regular season in the top ten of the league in assists (3.2 apg) and is averaging 7.0 points. The Jonesboro, Ark. native had five assists against Harding and recorded seven rebounds and five points. Providing a spark off the bench is something JJ Eddens has done in the month of February. The Luther, Okla. native is averaging 6.6 points and shooting 62.2 percent from the field in the last nine games.

Henderson and Ouachita split the season series, with each team winning its respective home game. The Reddies got the better of OUA in the most recent meeting, defeating the Tigers 82-72 in the Duke Wells Center. HSU had five players reach double-digit points and outrebounded Ouachita Baptist 38-32.

The last time HSU and OUA faced each other in the GAC Tournament was in the 2017-18 season when the two sides met in the first round. Henderson advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Ouachita Baptist 66-50.

SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
The Tigers had a strong finish to the season, winning its last four contests to secure the sixth seed at the GAC Tournament. OUA dominated in its last two outings with a 92-65 win over Southern Arkansas to clinch a spot in the tournament and an 81-62 victory against Arkansas-Monticello.

Ouachita Baptist's second-ranked scoring offense (72.5 ppg) in the GAC is led by Makayla Miller and Laney Mears, who are both averaging 14.3 points a game. When Miller is not driving to the basket, she is looking to set up her teammates with a league-best 4.7 assists a contest.

Mears is a constant threat from beyond the arc, with 77 three-point field goals and shooting 43.5 percent from beyond the arc. As a team, Ouachita Baptist is shooting 36.5 percent from the three-point line and 45.9 percent from the field, which both rank first in the conference. In the two games against Henderson, the Tigers shot 41.2 percent from the floor.
