Reddies Dominate Crimson Storm in Friday Twin Bill

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Henderson State got a trio of brilliant performances from pitchers Ryan Galvan, Owen Vanthillo and Andrew Howard as the Reddies defeated Southern Nazarene in Friday's doubleheader from Clyde Berry Field by a combined score of 22-3.

Greyson Stevens was a busy man in the pair of outings, recording a combined five hits with six RBIs and three runs scored, including finishing just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle in game one. Kaden Argenbright delivered one of his best performances of the season, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the former contest, including two RBIs and a triple.

The Reddies tallied a total 15 strikeouts from three different pitchers, including eight from Howard in his complete-game shutout while allowing just three hits in the seven-inning game to finish out the evening.

Henderson St. (25-17, 16-10 GAC) will return to Clyde Berry Field tomorrow at 12 p.m. in at attempt to go for the series sweep against Southern Nazarene. 30 minutes prior to first pitch, Stevens and Cade Tucker will be recognized for Senior Day.

GAME ONE: Henderson State 14, Southern Nazarene 3 (7 inn.)
The weekend series started off fast for HSU. After SNU sent four batters to the plate in a scoreless top of the first thanks to starting pitcher Galvan (5-3), Luke Farrar opened with a lead-off single before Stevens sent a two-run homer to right field for the early 2-0 lead. Southern Nazarene followed in step, however, using three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 lead after two frames.

That lead was short lived as Henderson added single runs in both the third and fourth inning to claim a 4-3 advantage. A Colton Patterson two-RBI single in the fifth gave the Reddies their second crooked number of the game for the 6-3 lead.

With HSU enjoying a three-run lead heading into the sixth inning, a big six-run sixth frame allowed the game to finish early. After pitcher Owen Vanthillo and the Henderson defense stranded a pair of Crimson Storm runners in the visitor-half of the sixth, Farrar fueled the scoring onslaught with a lead-off triple. That three-base knock was followed by a double, a single, a fielding error and another triple before HSU reached 10 runs before the first out had even been attained.

After a pitching change took place for SNU, one hit, two walks and two more errors resulted in another four runs for the red-and-gray as run-rule territory was reached with the 11-run advantage, 14-3. A three up, three down inning for Vanthillo clinched the victory for the Reddies.

GAME TWO: Henderson State 8, Southern Nazarene 0
The pitching continued where it left off in the first game with Howard (5-3) taking his turn to work three up, three down. Henderson then came through with four runs on two outs for the early 4-0 lead.

That four-run advantage remained until the fourth inning as Howard continued his solid work on the mound. A groundout from Austin Scritchfield scored Dillon Thomas for the fifth run of the game before the second big sixth-inning of the day for Henderson increased the lead.

Three runs off two hits and an SNU error opened an 8-0 lead as Howard struck out the final two Crimson Storm batters to complete the doubleheader sweep and clinch the series win with a chance for the three-game sweep tomorrow.
