LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - After starting off the 2023 season with the Arkansas Invitational, the Henderson State Red Wave men's and women's teams garnered qualification and consideration for 2024 Nationals next March.
Jack Armstrong was the lone individual on either side to receive an 'A' cut, granting automatic submission to Nationals in Geneva, Ohio March 13-16, 2024. Armstrong punched his ticket in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 42.77. Last season, the Manvel, Texas native finished third in 100 free at the National Championships.
Joining Armstrong with the automatic qualifying times was the men's 200-yard free relay as the quartet of Armstrong,
Jase Pinckney,
Tim Holt and
Lamar Taylor posted a time of 1:20.15. Last year at the National Championships, the same HSU relay team finished third in NCAA Division II.
Armstrong's National-worthy swims continued with the 50 freestyle, garnering a 'B' cut with a time of 19.66. Taylor also earned a 'B' cut, being just one hundredths of a second off the 'A' cut time, touching the wall at 19.58. Taylor is the defending NCAA Division II National Champion in the 50 free, as well as in the 100 free, while Armstrong was the National Runner-Up behind Taylor in the 50 free.
