Volleyball Hosts Southern Arkansas on Tuesday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After getting back to winning ways on the road, Henderson State returns home to host Southern Arkansas in the Duke Wells Center on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. 
 
REDDIES REPORT
HSU (10-5, 2-1) split a pair of conference matches last time out with a 3-1 defeat to Harding and a 3-1 win over Arkansas Tech. The Reddies' victory over the Golden Suns was the first win for Henderson in Russellville since 2019. HSU raced ahead 2-0 in the match before ATU pulled a frame back in the third set, but the red-and-gray would take the final stanza 25-17.
 
Violeta Mendoza Quintana recorded her sixth double-double of the year in the ATU win, finishing with 13 kills and 11 digs. This was the third double-double for the Chihuahua, Mexico native in her last four matches.
 
Larkin Luke and Brae Denton continue to lead the front-line defense after both recorded four blocks in the win over ATU. Luke is tied for first in the GAC with 17 solo blocks and moved up to third in blocks per set, averaging 0.94. Henderson ranks fourth in the league in blocking and has three players with 30 or more total blocks, led by Luke with 45 and Denton and Christiane Uzoh with 33 and 30, respectively.   
 
The Reddies lead the league in opponent kills, holding teams to 10.87 kills per set, while HSU ranks sixth in kills, averaging 12.06. The Henderson offense is led by Uzoh who has 145 kills and is attacking on a .270 average. The Beaumont, Texas native had 13 kills on a .308 attack average against Arkansas Tech.
 
Heading into the home match, Henderson St. has dominated in Arkadelphia against the Muleriders with a 36-6 record inside the Duke Wells Center and leads the all-time series 48-16. Last season, HSU bested SAU 3-1 at home, led by Uzoh and Luke, who had 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
 
SCOUTING SOUTHERN ARKANSAS
The Muleriders have won their last two matches, with back-to-back 3-1 wins over Arkansas Tech and Arkansas-Monticello to improve to 2-1 in conference play and 8-7 overall. In its last six competitions, SAU has only lost one match.  
 
Southern Arkansas has been lethal from the service line this year with 99 aces, which leads the league, and the team is second in aces per set, averaging 1.77. Against Arkansas Tech and Arkansas-Monticello, the Muleriders complied 14 aces, led by Macie Shaver, who had six.
 
The Muleriders offense runs through senior setter Morgan Schuster, who leads the team with 268 assists and is averaging 4.79 a set. When Schuster is not on the court running the offense, Shaver is the one pulling the strings in attack with 215 assists.
