ALVA, Okla. - After trailing by four at halftime, Henderson State shot just 16.7 percent (2-of-12) from three-point range in the second half while Northwestern Oklahoma State went 7-for-13 (53.9%) from beyond the arc to open it up over the final 20 minutes as the Reddies fell to the Rangers, 79-67.
Northwestern made 13 threes on just 26 attempts on the afternoon, marking the most triples HSU has allowed this entire season as well the highest percentage allowed.
Zyon Patterson scored in double figures for the fifth consecutive time as he led the team with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Patterson also recorded five assists as it is his second time in the last three games with at least five dimes.
Ken Lewis proved to be the main deep threat for the red-and-gray, connecting on all three of this triples for nine points. Saturday's was Lewis' second straight outing with multiple treys and his second game this season to hit a trio of three-pointers in a game.
The Rangers started out fast, opening a 10-3 lead and then a 15-7 advantage right before the under-12 media timeout. The Reddies began to slowly chip away before seeing their first lead of the game at the 6:32 mark of the opening half, 23-22.
A three-pointer from Patterson extended the lead to four before Northwestern went on a 14-2 run to regain the eight-point edge, 36-28. A late three from Lewis brought the deficit down to four at the break, 40-36.
Northwestern Oklahoma opened a 10-point lead four minutes into second-half action as the home team held the lead for the entire second half. Henderson was able to cut NWOSU's lead to four at one point, but the Rangers' activity from beyond the arc kept the red-and-gray from cutting into the lead anymore.
Henderson St. led for just 1:39 of game time as Northwestern handed HSU its second loss in the last three days, 79-67. The Reddies (5-8, 4-4 GAC) will now return home for a two-game home stand against Southeastern Oklahoma State and East Central next Thursday and Saturday.
