Henderson State Clashes with Oklahoma Baptist Saturday

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Henderson State women's basketball program looks to bounce back when the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist visit the Duke Wells Center on Saturday, Jan. 6 at 1 p.m.
 
REDDIES REPORT
A 21-10 second period by No. 7 Southern Nazarene would prove to be the difference maker in Henderson State's 75-53 loss to the Crimson Storm. HSU (6-5, 2-3) was held to its lowest field goal totals of the year, having made just 16, and was held to seven in the first half while shooting 26.2 percent from the floor over 40 minutes.
 
Ashley Farrar now ranks third all-time in scoring for HSU after a 17-point outing against Southern Nazarene, bringing her to 1578 career points. The Green Forest, Ark. native continues to close in on the top scorer's record, as Farrar is within 69 points of tying Lena Womack's 1647 career points. Through 11 games, Farrar has reached double-digit points in every contest, and leads the team in scoring and ranks fourth in points per game (18.2) across the GAC.
 
Sam Basson saw a season-high ten points against the Crimson Storm while going 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. The freshman from Allen, Texas, also led the team with three assists and added four rebounds to her totals in 18 minutes of action. Basson is averaging 3.6 points and 1.6 assists per game in eight appearances while shooting just over 40.0 percent from the floor and beyond the arc.
 
The Reddies rank fourth in the GAC in scoring offense, averaging 74.3 points per game. HSU's magic number this season has been 70, as the team is 5-1 when reaching 70 points, while when held under this mark, they are just 1-4. On the other side of the court, Henderson is 12th in scoring defense with teams averaging 75.9 points per game, giving the Reddies a -1.6 scoring margin. 
 
Henderson State has won the last six games in the Duke Wells Center against Oklahoma Baptist and boasts a 6-1 record at home. Most recently, HSU defeated OKBU 68-56 on the home court, led by Farrar with 16 points and Eryka Patton with nine points and seven rebounds. The Reddies lead the head-to-head series 10-4 and are 8-2 in the last ten meetings against the Bison.
 
SCOUTING OKLAHOMA BAPTIST
Like the Reddies, Oklahoma Baptist (5-6, 2-3) comes into Saturday's contest after a loss, as the Bison fell to Ouachita Baptist 76-39 on Thursday. OKBU's two conference wins this year have come in succession with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State (56-54) and East Central (69-60) just ahead of the Bison's trip to the Natural State.
 
Oklahoma Baptist struggled offensively against Ouachita Baptist, as the team shot 27.3 percent from the field and was held to 15.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc on 19 attempts. This season, OKBU is shooting 38.9 percent a clip from the floor, led by Bison's top scorer, Jaedyn Getman, with 17.7 points per game on a 45.3 shooting mark from the field. The sophomore forward also leads the team in three-pointers, having made 15, and is shooting a team-best 44.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
The Bison rank ninth in scoring offense, averaging 62.1 points per game, and is eighth in scoring defense, giving up 63.4 points per contest. At the glass, OKBU ranks 11th in rebounding, grabbing 35.4 boards per game, and is sixth in opponent rebounds, with opposition averaging 35.5 boards per contest.
