RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - After the Henderson State men's basketball program went 2-0 this past week with wins over Southern Nazarene and Oklahoma Baptist, redshirt junior 
Clarence King was named the Great American Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
King, who is the first HSU men's basketball player to be named the league's player of the week this season, finished the week's two games with 38 points on 72.7 percent shooting (16-of-22) while adding seven rebounds, seven steals and three blocks.
The week started off strong as the Kansas City, Mo., native recorded a season-high 26 points on just 13 shot attempts, while also making 5-of-6 free-throws, against Southern Nazarene. King was a perfect 9-for-9 on two-point field-goals as all three of his misses came from beyond the arc.
In addition to leading the Reddies on offense, King was also a menace on the defensive side of the ball, tallying seven steals and two blocks. Seven steals are the most steals by an HSU player in a single game in GAC history.
Against Oklahoma Baptist, the former Cowley Community College transfer delivered another efficient showing, scoring 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting (66.7%) while adding three rebounds and a block.
On the season, King is second on the team with 13.7 points per game and is tied for the team lead with 1.5 steals per game. The redshirt junior leads the GAC's top field-goal percentage team with 53.6 percent shooting on a minimum of 75 shot attempts.
King and company will head for western Oklahoma next where they will face Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State this Thursday and Saturday.
