MONTICELLO, Ark. – Henderson State Volleyball topped Arkansas-Monticello on Thursday night, sweeping the Blossoms 3-0 on the road at Steelman Fieldhouse.
The Reddies continued to build off of the momentum gained in an emotional comeback win against Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday. They won the first set 25-17, thanks in large part to a combined nine assists from
Madison Hatt and
Braxton Jones. After the Blossoms started the second set on a 4-0 run, Henderson responded with five unanswered points of its own following an early timeout. HSU would go on to win the tightly-contested set by a score of 26-24. The Reddies started set three on a 7-2 run, though the Blossoms would come back and eventually take an 11-10 lead. Henderson would outscore the Blossoms 15-7 down the stretch to secure its second conference victory of the week.
The aforementioned duo of Hatt and Jones tallied 30 assists across three sets.
Christiane Uzoh provided the final point of the match with her ninth kill of the night. The senior from Beaumont, Texas, showed extreme precision throughout the contest, finishing with a .471 hitting percentage.
Katilyn Steffes posted a team-best 10 kills and two service aces.
Led by a 16-dig, two-ace performance from
Kaylon Partain, the Reddies kept UAM's offensive efforts in check with a strong showing on defense.
The Reddies return to action next Thursday, October 10, in a road matchup against Southern Nazarene in Bethany. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. in SNU's Sawyer Center.
