Hot Springs, Ark. - Henderson State Volleyball battles hard versus the number one seed Southwestern but falls in four sets in round one of the GAC Tournament.
The Reddies fought hard but it was not enough to defeat the top seeded Bulldogs. The Reddies dominated the Bulldogs in the second set and had a lead in the third set but the Bulldogs rallied back in the third set to take a 2-1 set lead going into the fourth set. The fourth set went back and forth but the Bulldogs pulled away late to advance. The Reddies fell to the Bulldogs 17-25, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18.
In the first set the Reddies battled late into the set with the Bulldogs, receiving five kills from Christiane Uzoh. Uzoh was second in the match in total kills behind teammate Katilyn Steffes. The Reddies fell after multiple kills from the Bulldogs, falling 25-17.
In the second set the Reddies controlled the set from start to finish. Coach Phil McDaniel started Braxton Jones and went to Faith Harris off the bench. Jones finished the match with 25 assists, tied for the match high. In the second set alone the Reddies had five blocks to go along with their 10 total on the night. The Reddies pulled away in the set thanks to kills from Harris, Uzoh, and Steffes. The Reddies won the second set 25-19.
The Reddies pulled out to a 18-9 lead in the second set but could not close it out. The Bulldogs stormed back but the Reddies held a 24-22 lead before falling 26-24.
The fourth and final set of the season was competitive but the top seeded Bulldogs held strong late. The Reddies dropped the set 25-18.
A Reddie player led in every statistical category in the match except for blocks. Steffes led the match with 20 kills, Carson Edwards notched three service aces, Jones was tied for the assists leader with 25, and Kaylon Partain totaled 32 digs. The only category the Reddies did not lead in was blocks but Uzoh and Larkin Luke each had four and Cassidi Campbell added three.
The Reddies finished the 2024 season .500 or above for the second year in a row.
