Reddies to Finish Weekend Road Trip Versus East Central

MBB GAME NOTES: AT EAST CENTRAL - DECEMBER 7, 2024

ADA, Okla. – Following a win versus Southeastern on Thursday night the Reddies travel to Ada, Okla. to face the Tigers at 3 p.m.
 
The Reddies left Durant a three-point win after a Rondae Hill go ahead three pointer with 2.7 seconds remaining.
 
Trailing the Savage Storm at the half by eight the Reddies rallied back shooting 50 percent from deep in the second half on eight attempts. Matthew Mayes connected on a four-point play in the second half with 4:38 to go to cut the lead to one.
 
The Reddies sit at second in the GAC and were the only Arkansas-based university to win last night. The Reddies offense also ranks second in the conference in scoring at 87.7 ppg.
 
Against Southeastern the Reddies had four scorers in double-digits. Nehikhare Igiehon led the way with 17 points on 6-10 shooting to go along with five rebounds. Mayes was active on both ends, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. Hill played 24 minutes, connecting on three of his six threes including the go-ahead shot.
 
The Reddies outscored the Savage Storm 42-32 in points in the paint, 12-4 in fast break points, and points off turnovers 13-9.
 
Saturday at 3 p.m. the Reddies face the Tigers in the Kerr Activities Center.
 
The Reddies split the season series versus the Tigers last year with a three-point victory at East Central.
 
The Tigers 77-67 coming off a win versus Ouachita on Thursday night. The Tigers currently sit at 4-3 on the season while coming off a 13-15 season, barely missing the GAC tournament.
 
In their win the Tigers shot 54 percent from the field and 56 percent from three. Off the bench Jourdyn Grandberry scored 23 points on 70 percent shooting from the field. His 23 points helped outscore the Ouachita bench 26-18.
 
The Tigers are averaging 78.7 ppg while holding opponents to just 72 ppg. Redshirt-freshman Bishop Jones is currently averaging 19.6 ppg and nearly 70 percent from the field on the year. Jones is currently top 50 in the country in ppg and scored 36 points versus Dallas Christian. The Tigers have three players in double-digit scoring.
 
As a team the Tigers are shooting 46 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Head coach Daniel Wheeler is entering his third season as head coach. In his first season Wheeler led the Tigers to an 18-11 overall record and 13-9 in the GAC.
 
Players to Watch:
 
Rondae Hill has scored in double digits in three straight outings including 22 points versus Christian Brothers and 13 points versus Southeastern including the go-ahead three pointer.
 
Matthew Mayes now leads the team in scoring, assists, steals and blocks. Mayes is averaging 4.2 stocks (steals+blocks) per game.
 
The Reddies tip off versus the Tigers tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Kerr Activities Center
