GAME ONE: HSU 8, DSU 0 (6 inn.)
Brooke Johnson set the tempo early from the circle, providing the Reddies with four scoreless innings and only giving up one hit to Delta State. The HSU offense went to work while Johnson locked up the DSU bats, beginning in the bottom of the first.
A leadoff single by Warren would turn into the first run of the game two batters later when Johnson doubled to right field to score the freshman. Warren's second hit of the contest made it 2-0 for the Reddies in the bottom of second with an RBI single before Jackson extended HSU's lead to 3-0 with a solo shot over the left field wall to leadoff the third inning.
Henderson had Delta State under more pressure in the bottom of the fourth with the bases loaded and two outs. After three straight walks by the DSU pitching staff, Jodie De Hart made the Lady Statemen pay for the free passes with a double down the right-field line to score two more runs. The Reddies added a run in the fifth off the bat of Hoskins before Henderson's final score came in the bottom of the sixth from a throwing error by Delta State's catcher.
Johnson finished with 5.0 innings pitched and allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
Katelyn McMahan came in for relief in the final inning and got three straight ground outs to help HSU to its first shutout of the year. Warren led the bats with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a run scored and RBI.
GAME TWO: HSU 5, DSU 3 (5 inn.)
Starting pitcher
Savannah Carrigan kept the Lady Statesmen off the scoreboard in the first two innings, which allowed the Reddies to jump ahead 3-0. All three runs would come on one hit as Jackson blasted a three-run home run over the right-center field wall in the bottom of the first. DSU would pull two runs back in the top of the third on four hits to make it a one-run game, 3-2.
After being kept in check in the second and third frames, the Reddies' bats went to work again in the bottom of the fourth, scoring two more runs to make it 5-3. Hoskins's second hit of the game was a double down the left-field line to score
Raylee Carey, who pinch-ran for Makennzie Williams after leading off the inning with a single. The following at-bat, Copeland reached on a fielding error from DSU's centerfielder, which would score Hoskins from second. Delta State would plate one more run before the weather would bring the game to a halt in the middle of the fifth.
