Baseball Takes Midweek Contest Against Union, 8-2

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - With Henderson State and Union tied 2-2 after four and a half innings, the Reddies scored six runs in the final four frames to take the first midweek contest of the 2024 season, 8-2.

Henderson threw seven pitchers Tuesday night, with Luke Carter (1-0) earning the win after pitching just two-thirds of an inning without giving up any runs or hits. Andrew Howard, who got the start, and Ethan Perry each claimed no-decisions after issuing four and five strikeouts, respectively.

At the plate, Luke Rice was the only Reddie to log multiple hits, finishing his evening going 2-for-3 while also working a walk. Kaden Argenbright finished with one hit while recording three RBI with a pair a sacrifice flies and an RBI-groundout.

After both teams had plated two runs with play entering the bottom of the fifth, one of Argenbright's RBI led way to Austin Scritchfield opening the lead with a two-out, two-RBI single up the middle, extending the HSU advantage to 5-2.

Argenbright's second sacrifice fly added one more run in the sixth as HSU's final four pitchers over the final four innings combined to throw six strikeouts while not allowing a single hit.

With the added insurance run, Nate Moore came through with the final dagger in the seventh on an RBI triple before scoring himself on a wild pitch on the next at-bat to bring the score to its final tally, 8-2.

With eight games now under its belt, Henderson St. (4-4) begins GAC play this weekend when it heads to Weatherford, Oklahoma, to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m.
