Reddies Clash with Ouachita Baptist in Second Meeting

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Henderson State looks to complete the season sweep over rivals Ouachita Baptist on Thursday in the second installment of the Battle of the Ravine. The Reddies and Tigers will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. at the Duke Wells Center.
 
REDDIES REPORT
HSU (14-8, 10-6) got its second win of the season over Southwestern Oklahoma State last time out to complete the double over the Lady Bulldogs this season. The Reddies trailed by two points after the first period but would outscore SWOSU 50-39 in the next three quarters behind 45.7 percent shooting for the game.
 
Jadah Pickens and Ashley Farrar paced the scoring for Henderson against SWOSU with 18 and 11 points, respectively. Pickens in her last six starts is averaging 17.6 points per game, having reached double-figure points in all six contests. On the year, the Conway, Ark. native is scoring 7.7 points per game on a 42.1 percent shooting mark. Farrar leads the team with 16.3 points an outing and is the GAC's fourth-highest scorer.
 
The Reddies dominated the glass last time out versus Southwestern Oklahoma State, winning the rebound battle 41-28. All nine players to play in the contest recorded at least two rebounds, with Bobbi Bazzle leading the way on a team-high nine boards. Bazzle is the team's top rebounder, averaging 5.9 boards per game, followed by Makenna Winans with 5.7 rebounds per contest, and both rank inside the top 20 in the GAC in rebounding. 
 
Henderson got the better of Ouachita Baptist in game one after a double overtime thriller 94-92. The Reddies' win over the Tigers in the Bill Vining Arena was the team's first win there since 2021. HSU has been excellent at the Duke Wells Center versus OUA with a 10-3 record in the last 13 games, including three straight wins. Henderson has defended home court well this season with a 9-3 record at Duke Wells.
 
This year's first meeting provided end-to-end action and two extra periods before the Reddies found a win. Late heroics from Sam Basson in the first overtime frame would extend the game after she made a three-pointer as time expired to retie the contest. One of nine field goals made by Pickens came with eight seconds left in the second overtime period to complete the win as she finished with 27 points.
 
SCOUTING OUACHITA BAPTIST
Ouachita Baptist snapped a five-game losing streak last week, getting two wins, including an upset of then No. 18 Northwestern Oklahoma State 87-80 to cap off the 2-0 week. The Tigers' back-to-back victories have them tied with Arkansas Tech in the league standings at 7-9 in seventh place.
 
OUA's top scorer, Laney Mears, paced the team in the win over NWOSU with 22 points on a 41.6 percent shooting mark and knocked down four triples. The junior guard is averaging 13.4 points per game and leads the team with 43 three-pointers on 32.3 percent shooting. Mears is also OUA's steals specialist, as she ranks sixth in the GAC in takeaways with 2.3 steals per contest.
 
Backing Mears in scoring is Grayson Fairless, who has provided the Tigers with a strong presence in the post all season. Fairless notched ten points against Northwestern to match her season average of 10. 2 points per game. In addition, the sophomore forward leads the team at the glass with 6.1 rebounds per game and had 17 last week. As a team, Ouachita Baptist is scoring 65.8 points per game and averaging 37.3 boards per game with a +1.5 rebound margin.
