Reddies Conclude Road Stretch at Arkansas Tech

COVERAGE LINKS I GAME NOTES

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – In the second to last game of the regular season, the Henderson State women's basketball program will head to the Tucker Coliseum on Thursday to face Arkansas Tech at 5:30 p.m.

REDDIES REPORT
Henderson State (17-9, 13-7) capped off its trip to Oklahoma with a 75-66 win over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday to complete a 2-0 week. After picking up the win against the Savage Storm, head coach Jill Thomas tied Jane Sevier for the most wins in program history (164). A win in the final two regular season games or at the GAC Tournament will make coach Thomas the winningest women's basketball head coach in program history.

Tori Gittens was one of three players to see double-figure points in the win at Southeastern and continued her stellar week at the three-point line, going 3-of-5 for 14 points. The Sherman, Texas native went 6-of-10 for the week from beyond the arc, bringing her to 55 triples this year on a 51.9 percent shooting mark, which leads all of DII. Behind Gittens's shooting efforts, Henderson leads the GAC in three-point field goal percentage, converting 35.0 percent from deep.

Makenna Winans provided a strong presence in the post over last week with 17 rebounds in two games and had a team-high nine boards in the win against the Savage Storm. Winans ranks 14th in the GAC in rebounding with 5.9 boards per game, while Bobbi Bazzle follows closely behind in 16th with 5.8 rebounds per game. Rebounding has not always come easy this season, as the Reddies hold just a +0.2 rebound margin on 38.7 boards per game.

Henderson State has a chance to do the double over Arkansas Tech on Thursday after winning the first game this season 84-80 back on Dec. 9. The Reddies have enjoyed recent success against the Golden Suns, having won six straight games, including back-to-back road contests, heading into the 113th meeting. Arkansas Tech does lead the all-time series 73-39 and is 7-3 in the last 10 games inside the Tucker Coliseum.

Ashley Farrar (33) and Gittens (21) combined for 54 points and ten three-pointers in the first meeting, as the team shot 44.3 percent for the game and were 11-of-29 from beyond the arc. The Reddies led by one with 2:27 left in the game, and six points from Farrar in the final 33 seconds would ice the game.

SCOUTING ARKANSAS TECH
After going 1-1 last week, including an 80-70 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State, Arkansas Tech (12-12, 9-11) finds itself in a battle with SWOSU for the fifth seed at the conference tournament. The Golden Suns trail the Lady Bulldogs by one game and will need some games to fall their way in order to lock up fifth place.

ATU recently took Northwestern Oklahoma State to the final buzzer but would come up just short 67-64. Alex Hill, the team's top scorer, averaging 12.0 points per game, led the scoring for the Golden Suns with 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting and was 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Hill this season is shooting 35.0 percent from the field and 24.5 percent from deep. In ATU's first meeting with HSU, the Harrison, Ark. native registered 16 points on 30.4 percent shooting.

Statistically, Arkansas Tech ranks in the middle to upper half of most categories, including rebounding and blocks. The Golden Suns lead the league at the glass with 42.4 rebounds per game with the help of Dana Thompson, who is averaging 9.4 boards a game. Defensively, ATU leads the conference in blocks (5.33 bpg) and is third in opponent field goal percentage, with teams shooting 35.3 percent against the Golden Suns.
