Reddies Battle in Bethany, Fall to SNU 76-72

BETHANY, Okla. - Henderson State finished off its second Oklahoma road trip of the regular season with a 76-72 loss to Southern Nazarene inside the Sawyer Center.

Malek Davis led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-14 shooting and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. Zyon Patterson was the only other Reddie to score in double figures with 13 points and nine rebounds.

For the second straight game, HSU's turnovers played a pivotal role, giving the ball away 16 times compared to seven for Southern Nazarene. Those discrepancies had SNU out-gain HSU in points-off-turnovers, 27-9.

Similar to Thursday in Shawnee, Henderson State started off fast, rattling off the game's first eight points before opening a 20-6 lead at the 14:19 mark. At 26-11, the Crimson Storm mounted a 15-0 run to give the game its first tie with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half.

The Reddies built the lead back to four at the half, 36-32, but the momentum inside the Sawyer Center had shifted. The lead remained between 6-9 before Southern Nazarene saw its first lead of the game at the 13:27 mark of the second half, 47-46.

From there, the lead changed hands two more times over the next two times down the court before SNU took a hold of the lead for good 45 seconds later. Free-throws allowed SNU to extend its lead to double-digits before Henderson delivered a final jab at the lead under a minute and a half remaining.

A pair of free-throws from Patterson and Davis cut the Crimson Storm lead to two on two separate occasions inside the game's final 90 seconds, but a pair of blocks from SNU on HSU's final possession put the game on ice.

Henderson State (6-13, 5-9 GAC) will return the Duke Wells Center for a three-game home stand, beginning with Northwestern Oklahoma State Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m.
