DURANT, Okla. – Southeastern Oklahoma State sweeps Sunday's doubleheader to take the series, defeating Henderson State 6-2 in the first game and 5-1 in the second contest.
The Reddies recorded 13 hits across the two games, with
Raylee Carey and
Josie Golden each seeing two hits in the first game and
Katelyn McMahan recording a pair of hits in the second contest. In addition,
Justine Burch tallied a knock in each game to finish the doubleheader with two hits.
Henderson (11-17, 3-11) returns to Dee White field for a three-game weekend series against East Central on Mar. 22-23.
GAME ONE: SE 6, HSU 2
Southeastern Oklahoma State jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second with a five-run frame after chaining together five hits. The Henderson bats were kept in check for most of the game, as the SE pitching staff delivered four scoreless innings.
HSU got the offense going in the top of the fifth after Carey led off the frame with a single. Burch reached on a single to put two runners on with one out one batter later, and a two-RBI single by
Emylee Bittinger plated the pair of base runners to make it 5-2.
Presley Applegate came in for relief after starting pitcher
Savannah Carrigan went 2.0 frames and would limit SE to two hits in the final 4.0 innings. The Savage Strom added one final run in the bottom of the fifth to take the first game of day 6-2.
Carey and Golden led the team with four of the team's six hits, while Em. Bittinger and Burch had the other two knocks. The Reddies stranded eight runners over the seven innings and committed just one error.
GAME TWO: SE 5, HSU 1
Both sides were deadlocked at 0-0 through the first two innings, but the Savage Storm quickly broke the tie and found separation after a four-run third inning. Southeastern added to its lead in the following inning with another run in the bottom of the fourth to stretch its advantage to 5-0.
The Reddies threatened in the top of the fourth with the bases loaded with no outs following two hits by
Mackenzie Williams and
Josie Copeland and an error allowed Em. Bittinger to reach. However, the Savage Storm were able to work out the jam and strand all three runners to keep HSU off the scoreboard.
HSU would score a lone run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by
Jodi De Hart, which scored McMahan, who led off the inning with a single. McMahan led the team at the plate with two hits and run scored, while the team finished seven hits.
