Argenbright Breaks Hits Record in 9-1 Loss to No. 8 SAU

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - Kaden Argenbright came into the day with the program record in doubles, runs scored and now hits with 268 career base-knocks after his 2-for-4 day against in-state rival No. 8 Southern Arkansas.

Despite the record-breaking performance, Henderson State came up short against the Muleriders in what was the fourth meeting between the schools this season, 9-1.

Argenbright was one of just four Reddies to see a hit on the evening as Luke Rice, Jordan Allen and Landon Ervin were the other three to reach safely. The two-hit day from the new all-time hits leader has him sporting a six-game hitting streak with 14 hits during that stretch.

Allen claimed his one hit in the bottom of the second inning on what was a solo home run to put Henderson on the board first, 1-0. The Muleriders immediately answered with a solo shot of their own in the third to knot it up at one.

Southern Arkansas kept answering while HSU's offense was left sputtering as SAU scored eight unanswered runs over the next three innings to open up the game following seven innings of play, 9-1.

Amidst the struggles at the plate, Argenbright came to the dish in the bottom of the third for his second at-bat. History was made as the fifth-year senior sent a single to shallow right field. Another single in the sixth brings his current record-holding mark to 268 career hits.

After Argenbright and Rice's singles in the sixth, the Reddies were unable to record another base runner as No. 8 SAU evened up the season series with the 9-1 midweek victory.

Henderson State (14-14, 9-6 GAC) will head for the Sooner State this weekend when it meets East Central in Ada, Oklahoma, for a three-game series beginning Friday, Mar. 22 at 2 p.m.
